Departure Time

8:30 PM
The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of 'The Barber of Seville,' 'La Traviata,' or 'Rigoletto' (see Itinerary below for details).

On the night of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes near the place where you sit.

Instead of a traditional set change, get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a glass of Prosecco, juice, or soda during one of two brief intermissions. At the end of the experience, you have a chance to buy a CD or DVD of the opera.

The traveling opera - La Triviata- was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. The musicians are talented and the location was convenient and interesting. Note that if you want a program you need cash. Overall I highly recommend attending the traveling opera.

Uncomfortable

Performance was very good. Unfortunately the place was crowded, hot and seats were very uncomfortable and the first scene we couldn’t see anything. We left after second act because we were terribly uncomfortable. But the performance of the little we saw was very entertaining.

Very Venetian experience

Initially we were wary of taking booking this opera as we are not opera lovers at all. But our friends insisted and we went. We ended up thoroughly enjoying it. It was such a lovely experience. It was up close and personal and we moved from room to room making it a much more enjoyable experience than a typical opera in a big theater. I would definitely recommend this. It just gave us such a good feeling and made our experience in Venice so much better.

Immersed in Art, Music & Drama

A must even if 'opera' is not your main musical interest. The Barber of Seville done this way was fun and immersive and you cannot help but wonder what life and romance was like a few hundred years ago in that very building in Venice. Highly recommend it. It is worth it to purchase the program/guide and read up a bit on the storyline and keep as a souvenir. Very happy with the experience!

This is such an amazing event in such a quaint setting. I never imagined how fantastic the performance could / would be until it started. The memory goes on and on and will absolutely return the next time we're in Venice

From the moment we arrived, it was a different feel to traditional opera. The venue was lovely, the artists were so close to the audience interacting with them during the performance. It was fun to move around to different rooms at each new scene. Loved it and would absolutely go again!

Magical Evening

Three of us went to this "Traveling Opera" while we were in Venice. It was beyond magical. The palazzo is really extraordinary and it was truly like being hosted in someone's home. The singers just almost literally blew me away. They had full operatic voices and their acting was superb! We saw the "Barber of Seville," which is a funny opera already and the acting took it to the level of almost hysterical. I mean, I could pretty much follow the story even though I don't really remember the libretto and the only thing keeping me from laughing out loud the whole way through was not wanting to miss a note. There were only three people accompanying the singers and they truly made up for an entire orchestra. I am still awed by the energy and excitement they put out. They really supported the singers all the way through. The singers played right to us throughout the whole opera and included us. They put out a full performance with no stinting even though we were a small audience. That is truly professional. It was an honor to be entertained by such accomplished musicians and a real delight!

Don't miss this!

Waling down the narrow grotto alleys of Venice and we end up in a 1500's house. Privately performed "Rigaletto" was nothing less than amazing. Never done an opera but betting opera lovers will appreciate even more. To be able to see up close the expressions and even the labored breathing of each passionate note echoing through the chambers of these rooms. TX interpretation: "If that don't get ya, your powder ain't dry!" Seriously, just do this.
