Bob is an amazing tour guide and host for the Granville Public Market. He made thoughtful food selections to showcase the area, his heritage and the delicious offerings at the market. We appreciated his food experience as he interwove much of that into our tour. One suggestion: start the tour an hour earlier so participants have time to return to their favorite stalls to purchase additional items. It was a great time.

Bob is a really excellent tour guide. The samplings were incredible and the bread was amazing! Although I tend not to eat bread, I immediately went online after getting back to my hotel to see if I could order it back in the states! The candy salmon, the chocolates from Lorraine, the macroons (fuzzy peach was my choice)and the charcuterie, were all absolutely fabulous as well! Thanks for a great time!!

Go with an open mind, empty stomach

The hype is real; Granville Market is a prize worth spending time on! The market is a mix of fresh and beautifully gleaming produce piled up for the taking, sparkling silver fish on ice, and other toothsome primary ingredients, nicely balanced against the stalls selling finished products like sandwiches, soups, and cookies. As is usual in these sorts of spots, no chain corporations, it's all only locally-sourced and lovingly made. Unlike some other markets, the stalls and shops are laid out with spacious walkways between, so I never felt suffocated by crowds or intimidated by crazy long lines (and it was a Sunday afternoon to boot). Bob was friendly and well-informed on his subject matter. He spent some time getting to know us and tailoring the tour to our own tastes and countries of origin (we were a small group of four). The tour was well-paced with a good alternating mix of storytelling, walking, and then pausing to sample. This is a real food tour with generous sampling, so think whole croissants, full-size lemonades, the works. Do NOT go on a full stomach! My recommendation would be to book this tour for the morning and then also book a solid 3-4 hours to stay on by yourselves after the tour is done. My biggest regret when Bob finished was having to leave right away to catch another reservation, when I'd sampled so many delicious and unique things that I would have loved to go back and build out a complete meal. Take notes on your tour for your favorite samples, and if you're not quite hungry enough when the tour is done, there's arts and crafts to browse and buy, bars to chill in and watch the yachts sail past, and even small waterbikes to rent for you to take a turn across the bay. After all that, your appetite should have no problem regenerating. One last note to the tour: your instructions rely on turning at the Starbucks, which seems to have been bought out by a rival company, so your instructions need updating.

Bob's walking tour was a fantastic experience. He was very knowledgeable of the history of Granville Public Market and with our group of 8, 3 different countries were represented and Bob's personal style allowed all of us to get to know one another. Two of my sons, ages 12 and 11, plus my 80-year-old mother and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. You must take this tour. It is excellent and filling and the food is delicious.

New food and old traditions with Bob Sung

Bob Sung truly cares about food, culture and the history of food migration - and he presents his breadth of knowledge with a friendly and approachable manner. He was curious about me, my familiarity with food, my family’s traditions, and he encouraged me to think about what I’m tasting and how I would pair the food we sampled on the tour in my day to day life. I tried food at Granville that I’ve never tried before, even though I’ve visited the Island numerous times before. Thanks Bob!

Robert took us around the Granville Island Public Market and was very informative. He showed us all the good stuff in there and was it was a great conversation between a fun group of people! From the salmon, tea, apple tasting, chocolate tasting, pickle tasting and cheese tasting it was great! The added bonus of tasting sake was great.

This was such a fun outing! Robert, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He was patient with my picky-eater husband, too! We were the only two on the tour that day. We tasted some exotic food and some everyday food- all delicious! We were introduced to many fruits and meats we had never seen or tasted before. Definitely a tour worth taking!
