Lovely boat and sail, but experience not quite as advertised
Stephen_H
, Jun 2021
Our group of 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 4-7) booked this activity for a birthday celebration. First, the good: the boat was beautiful, as was the sail around San Diego itself. Captain Don was friendly, and had some experience with children similar in age to ours. We watched a lovely sunset and to the delight of our kids saw many planes and helicopters flying overhead. Sadly no marine wildlife was seen. Now for the hard part: we booked this particular sail boat because it advertised a captain and a crew person as well as light snacks, water and alcoholic drinks included on board. We even emailed to confirm that snacks, water and drinks were included as we were celebrating a birthday and had children who would likely be hungry before sunset. We received an email confirming that there would be indeed snacks, water, wine and beer. As we met the captain and boarded the boat he told us that the other crew member had been doing other things that day, and would not be joining us. This was unfortunate, as instead of being able to relax with our friends and kids one of the adults always had to be down in the hold taking care of drinks and snacks, instead of enjoying the sail with service as promised. That of course brings us to the beverage and food offerings. There was water and a bottle of chilled wine. Not much else. The captain said to help ourselves to snacks and drinks but really there was nothing set up for us, and the snacks consisted of things that were in the somewhat sparse fridge. Think mostly eaten hummus, garlic crackers and a hunk of cheese. As experienced parents we had brought back up snacks, and wine just in case. Thank goodness we did, as it would have been a long 2 hours without any semblance of kid friendly food. The overall lack of preparedness, and failure to deliver on what was advertised as being included was disappointing and certainly not worth the additional price we paid for this experience as compared to other offerings.
