Tour in the snow

Memorable trip, starting well before the sun came up. First stop, relaxing in the secret lagoon, snow falling as daylight slowly rose. Magnus made all the transfers feel short, with his frequent observations, information and views. Much appreciated!

Amazing day out!

We had a jam packed day of things to see and do on this tour. It started around 8.30am and we got back around 5pm. Bara was our driver, she is very knowledgeable and friendly, it was like being driven around by a beloved family member, we were all made to feel very welcome. There were masks and hand sanitiser at the front of the bus that she encouraged us to use when getting on/off the minibus. Our first stop was Thingvellir national park, we were dropped off at the viewing platform and were allocated about 50 minutes to peruse the landscape and make our way down the path between the fissure, it's an easy path to traverse and not difficult to navigate to the pick up point where she met us afterwards. Our next stop was Gullfoss waterfall and it is enormous! So loud and an incredible feat of nature. The sun came out whilst we were there and it created beautiful rainbows in the spray. Naturally the wind blows the spray one way or another so be prepared to get a bit wet. Again Bara dropped us off at a viewing platform and we walked down to a lower level where she had driven down to pick us up. Next, we drove to Strokkur where we were allocated about an hour and a half to take a lunch break and see the surrounding area, including of course the famous Strokkur hot spring. It goes off every 5 minutes or so, so you most certainly won't have to wait around for it - everyone that was there was standing primed with their cameras pointed fixed on it waiting to get a shot of the famous water eruption... and what a show! Be wary of the wind direction, much like Gullfoss, you could get soaked! On the way to the Secret Lagoon we had a short stop at Faxi waterfall, a beautiful place where you can get right up close to the water. The Secret Lagoon is the final stop on the trip and it's a lovely relaxing occasion. I was torn originally between doing this and the Blue Lagoon, but in the end there were 3 decisive reasons why to choose the Secret Lagoon - 1. price, 2. popularity.. it is much quieter, and 3. The Secret Lagoon is a natural hot spring, unlike the Blue Lagoon which is in fact man-made. It must be stated that you have to shower naked before entering the pool. For an anxious person like me this was almost enough to put me off doing it all together but I very soon realised that every other tourist was in exactly the same situation- everyone is too concerned with their own modesty to even think about anyone else's, and the locals that use the pool have seen it a million times before. There are lockers that are free to use and towels that you can rent for 700ISK (~£4). There's also a bar, you can actually take your glass of wine/can of beer into the pool, quite a novel experience! There are pockets of the pool that are warmer than others and bits that are fenced off for your safety which are too hot to enter. The side can be deceptively slippy, when I was there a girl had slipped and cut her arm and was being escorted back inside. Bara was forward thinking and considered that everyone would be knackered after their hot swim so made sure to tell us most of her tour guide knowledge at the beginning of the day so the journey back was pretty quiet. Overall the whole day was a brilliant experience and I'd highly recommend it!

Absolutely brilliant trip! Bjorn was our tour guide and he was super, really funny and knowledgeable - clearly loves his country and had lots of interesting facts/stories about it! There is a fair bit of travelling but that said I didn’t feel rushed at any of the places we visited - had plenty of time to have a look round and see everything! The sunrise at the national park was incredible and the views there were breathtaking! Iceland is an amazing country and this tour lets you see some of the little pockets of magic it has to offer! Finished at the secret lagoon which was the perfect end to the trip; I’ve never experienced anything like it and it wasn’t overly busy! We rented some towels which was easily done and again we got about an hour in the water so it didn’t feel rushed! Overall well worth the money; if you want to spend more time at places rent a car but if you want the peace of mind of being driven to each site and the opportunity for a “taste” of each place this is well worth it!

Bjorn is an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and quite funny. He made our tour wholly worthwhile. The Secret Lagoon and the stop at the farm for homemade ice cream were the bomb.

It was raining and windy but the tour went ahead and as the day progressed the weather became almost sunny. The price was very reasonable and the visits to Guillfoss, Thingvelir & Geysir as well as lunch and a stop at the Secret Lagoon for a soak at the end of the day were still amazing. It takes awhile to drive to and from all of the sights on this tour so the time at each feels rushed but after all this is a sampler. Renting a car or camper van will allow you to explore at your own pace and be able to stop for those photo ops that you cannot capture from a moving vehicle. Kudos to Magnus who had a full bus load to keep cheerful on such a gloomy day.

It felt safe, fun and interesting to travel with Bára. She was so kind and professional. The stops went on for a perfect amount of time and Bára filled the time on the road between the stops with a perfect amount of information, fun talk and music. We will be rebooking next time we come to iceland. Thank you!
