We were the only two people on the tour and we were fortunate enough to be guided in French (mostly, sometimes husband needed excellent translation in English) by Sebastien, a true scholar of history, architecture, and yes - oenology. We started in Reims, where Sebastien, gave us a fabulous tour of the Cathedral. We then moved on to Pommery Vranken, with tour of the gorgeous caves, full of bottles and art. Tasting was ok - I am a connaisseuse of Champagne, so no news to me, but the experience itself was brilliant. We had lunch at a typical small town French restaurant in Epernay, then drove on Avenue de Champagne, seeing all the great houses and the names attached to them. Magical! On to a lookout point with a brief lecture on soil and the actual growing of the main 3 types of grapes in Champagne. Stunning scenery and tons of interesting facts! We ended at Michel Fagot, fifth generation grower and family estate. Yes, of course there were tastings all along (I asked for spit buckets because I’m a snob and only drink certain years and houses), but the massive value in all this is Sebastien and his wonderful personality and breadth of knowledge. If you think you know everything about Champagne, think again - you will learn so much on this tour. An extra plus for comfortable SUV, charming staff everywhere we went, and tour ending on time so no stress catching the TGV back to Paris. Worth every penny and more!

Great Champagne tour with Raphael

Visit to the caves of Pommery and then to a small grower (Didier Herbert) for a champagne tasting and private lunch. Excellent. Traveled through the Champagne countryside while Raphael provided information on the history of the champagne area.
Also visited the Reims cathedral.
Raphael was an excellent guide.

Rafael was a great guide. Also all of the other couples on the tour were great too. Really enjoyable time learning about Reims, Champagne and history all while drinking some good champagne. Can't go wrong with this tour.

Lovely introduction to Reims and the champagne area. There was a miscommunication regarding the initial hiccup involving the pick-up time (email said tour started at 0930 when it was actually 0900), luckily our guide, Rafael, called looking for us and we were able to quickly meet up. There were eight of us total. First stop, Veuve! Very informative small group tour inside the caves with one generous tasting afterwards. If you wanted more, you could pay to try one of their Grand Madams for 30 euros, or buy the bottle for 850. Onward to the Reims cathedral for a quick stop. Rafael is very knowledgeable about the history of the area so that made the visit more meaningful. We then drove out and stopped on the road at a vineyard to taste some of the actual grapes and learn more about the process. We later stopped at a small local winery for more champagne sampling paired with a delicious lunch. Our last stop was another small winery where he showed us the current methods in use, plus more sampling of course. Finished up around 5 just in time to relax for dinner. Very enjoyable day!

Dear Dennis,
Thanks for your comment and in the name of France Intense we feel sorry for the misinformation about the pick-up time. Hopefully Raphael manage to have you in the tour. We feel glad that you enjoyed the rest of your day and are waiting to welcome you back anywhere in France.
Sincerely,
Arthur

My fiancée and I were enjoying Paris but concerned we would have to stay in the city as a transportation strike over Macron's proposed pension reform had shut down much of France. Fortunately, our guide notified us that trains were still running to Reims, the capital of Champagne, and provided us with easy to follow instructions for how to get there. Our day exploring its gothic architecture, the towering cathedral, and France's biggest champagne houses were magical! The knowledge and humor from our guide made the trip all the more memorable. The champagne was on point, too! All in all, Reims via Viatour is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the history-rich, idyllic French countryside.

It is an absolut MUST to do! Great Tour

We loved it. We were 8 people in a mini van and our first stop was at Veuve Cliquot. It was really impressive discovering the cave. After this guided tour we tasted one glass of champagne. Very delicious. Then we started a sight seeing tour through Reims and eat lunch about 30 min away at the countryside. There we had another tasting tour at Dom Caudron. Also very delicious. We got almost drunk :-) but it wasn't finished yet. Another tasting tour started right after near by. After 8 glasses of champagner we skipped the sightseeing tour of the cathedral of Reims. Too tired :-)
Overall we very impressed and lucky having booked this tour. Highly recommended!!
Great day of champagne tasting!

What a fun day! Christophe was our guide and he was great! He was very personable and knowledgeable about the region. We toured 3 champagne houses from the large and famous Veuve Clicquot to a much smaller and beautiful family run house. We had a delicious lunch at the second house located in a small village in the beautiful French countryside. We learned about the extensive process of champagne making and it gave us all much more appreciation of the bottles of bubbly.
Christophe also took us to a beautiful cathedral and told about it's history. We were accompanied by 5 other people and we all had a great day of champagne sampling and getting to know each other. I think we all agreed, it was one of our favorite days during our Paris stay!
Totally Exquisite

You guys have miraculously - in this world of hyperbole and marketing mayhem - completely undersold this tour. It was divine in every way. The meeting was concise and the van was high level. The guide, an engaging and highly knowledgable local gentleman named Julian, was so accommodating to our time and questions and needs, yet kept the day moving at a brisk but enjoyable pace. He had great pride for his region of birth and it shown through. The places we visited were even ore intriguing and beautiful than we had imagined, and we have wild imaginations. The lunch was unbelievable high class and tasty and the personal tour of one of the local champagne houses was so welcoming. We drank and tasted and ate and laughed and just took it all in. I highly, HIGHLY recommend people take this tour and hope you get Julian, but I am sure if he is working it than you guys have quite a team. One of the highlights of our 20th anniversary France trip. Thank you all!

First of all, Kudos to Dorothée, our so friendly guide. She made our day. Always available to provide information as & when needed, very knowledgeable both on the Champagne subject but also all historical facts regarding Reims. The choice of Champagne Houses was very well thought-through. Starting with Veuve-Cliquot, we ended up our day with a highlight, the Didier Chopin Family Business. Everything has been perfect all day long! Therefore don't hesitate, book asap and make anything possible to ask for Dorothée as your Guide - you won't regret it.
An excellent tour with an excellent tour guide.

We had a wonderful tour of the Champagne region, hosted by Melanie. We visited three champagne houses including a wonderful lunch at one of them as well as Notre Dame in Reims. Melanie was well versed in the area and the subject. A wealth of information and would recommend Melanie highly as a tour guide to anyone else visiting the area. We were all adults on the trip (7 of us) and we all had a wonderful day.

This tour was a highlight to our trip! My husband and I love champagne but until now, we had not realized the time and effort that goes into making the perfect glass of bubbly to be paired with various dishes. We always think of pairing wines with different courses but sampling different champagnes only add to the enjoyment of your culinary delights! Our guide was Amanda and she was wonderful! We had to get to the railroad ourselves but the Metro service in Paris is very timely and not at all difficult to navigate. We met Amanda at the station and once our fellow passengers joined us, we were off to a most enjoyable day. Amanda drove us around giving us the history of Reims, visited the beautiful Notre Dam of Reims, visited the historic Veuve du Clicquot where we learned the intricacies of making champagne and the history of this manufacturer. We then went on a beautiful ride through the countryside to local owned champagnerie to enjoy a three course lunch paired with a different champagnes to compliment every course. We ended our tour with a family owned business in a charming town and got an education on the co-ops that help eachother to produce the champagne of the region. Again, more sampling of delicious champagnes and then back to the train to return to Paris. The day was a thorough delight!

This was a wonderful tour. Our guides provided background on the area, the cathedral and the 3 Champagne tastings. My only wish is that they would have paid better attention to getting us back to the train on time as requested. Even after several reminders they barely got us back with only minutes to spare.
