Meet your local guide on North Mississippi Avenue for some south-east Asian indulgence. Sample delicious, authentic Thai food such as yum soon sen noodles, complemented by housemade blueberry soda or a local microbrew. Come hungry and enjoy the abundant samplings.

Next, head north to discover some of the city’s food hotspots. Depending on the day and the whimsy of the group, stops may include the eclectic Mississippi Marketplace, an iconic food cart pod and home of Koi Fusion and 503 Burger, or The Meadow, a boutique shop that appeals to true foodies with its selection of exotic salts, chocolates, and bitters—a great place for a souvenir!

Along the way, admire Mississippi’s historic brick-and-mortar masonry, classic Benson Bubbler water fountains, and quirky shops that define the area, such as the light bulb shop featured in an episode of Portlandia.

Your last stop is Ruby Jewel Scoops, home of decadent homemade ice cream sandwiches. Try two signature flavors before heading out to continue exploring independently.

Your tour wraps up just in time for happy hour, so head to Mississippi Studios or Stormbreaker Brewing for some music, conversation, and great local beer.

Forktown Food Tours
Your food tour of Mississippi Avenue begins right in the bustling heart of the neighborhood, where you’ll meet your guide and enjoy your first tasting of the day, a yummy Thai glass-noodle salad, accompanied by homemade blueberry soda or a Willamette Valley Pinot Gris. From there, continue your walking tour with your local guide, stopping at some of Portland’s most popular eateries and drinking establishments, all concentrated within a few blocks of each other on Mississippi Avenue. Exact itineraries vary slightly each day, but all tours are likely to include Prost! Marketplace, where food carts gather into a “food cart pod”, The Meadow, a delightful shop dedicated to salt, and chocolate, along with one of Portland’s best breweries. In between stops, pass by shops and other sites that add to the neighborhood’s eclectic character, such as one of Portland’s famous Benson Bubbler water fountains and a light bulb shop where an episode of Portlandia was filmed. The tour ends around the corner from where it began. Take some time after the tour to browse the shops and maybe have another cocktail! Types of food & tastes: • The People’s Choice best burger in the city paired with a microbrew • 2 mini Prohibition era cocktails served alongside hazelnuts and bruschetta • Korean-Mexican fusion tacos  • Yum woon sen glass noodle salad with a glass of Willamette Valley Pinot Grigio • Ice cream sandwiches – chocolate-chip cookies with salted-caramel ice cream and lemon cookies and lavender-honey ice cream • Local dark chocolates from the Portland’s most beloved chocolate makers and chocolatiers

Claire, our guide, was fabulous as she led us from venue to venue. Her explanations of the emergence of the Portland food scene and the history of Portland was fascinating. And yes, the food was ample and delicious. Great places to stop, learn and eat.

We had a great time on this tour. Mississippi Avenue is a unique and interesting redeveloped section of Portland with lots of great, independently owned restaurants, bars and shops and a great sense of community. We have done a number of food tours, and this would surely rank among the best. Our guide, Anna, was enthusiastic and well acquainted with the neighborhood. At a few of the stops the business owners were there and shared with us their passion for what they were doing and their commitment to the neighborhood. The food ranged from burgers with homemade spicy ketchup, to Thai, to a boutique that carries life's greatest gourmet pleasures, including artisan finishing salts and single origin chocolate from around the world. A great food adventure. If it is not possible to tour, do visit Mississippi Avenue on your own.
