Rowan was highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about every element of the forest, from birds to plants to banana slugs! We thoroughly enjoyed learning from him and the shady trail provided a lovely respite from the heat.

Rowan (hope I spelled his name correctly) and Everett were great tour guides. They were extremely knowledgeable about the trail, Portland’s history, and wildlife. Had a fantastic time.

Urban Forest Hiking with a Portland spin

Nice scenic hike through park/creek and neighborhoods in the middle of the city. A good hike so be prepared to climb some rocky trails. I, sadly, had a bad knee and managed to twist it climbing so I didn't quite get to experience the whole tour and had to stop, but it was good for as far as my knee let me go. :)

Our guide was Sarah. She's great. Funny, entertaining; and extremely knowledgeable. We were lucky to have her all to ourselves. The conversation ranged over all sorts of topics.

    Amazing urban-nature adventure

You will see the best of Portland during this tour. It starts in cozy and picturesque Goose Hollow area, includes beautiful Washington park, Pittock Mansion with the magnificent view, then mystic Forest park. Very good cardio workout , as the first part of the tour goes uphill. The guide, Jeri, is amazing: she is very passionate with her job, enthusiastic, and is happy to share her knowledge. I enjoyed listening her stories. She is also very attentive and responsive to any questions or requests. I will definitely look for more tours with her guidance.
icon Response from Host , Apr 2022
Oh we're so happy you had a great time with Jeri! And you're right -- this is our most challenging tour from a fitness perspective but so worth the effort! We'd love to see you again on one of our other tours, like the Soul of the City walking tour.

I had a great time with Everett and the one other individual on our tour. Everett was super knowledgeable about the history and fielded any questions we threw at him very well. The hike itself was BEAUTIFUL as there was a glowing fog over everything. Saw a TON of mushrooms and fungi which was a big reason why I chose this tour. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Portland :)

My second time taking this tour, and it’s just as good. I had originally taken the morning tour, a month back, and here I am again. Our tour guide was knowledgeable on nearly anything my group and I could have asked him, and pointed out all these things that we all would have missed. We thank him—our tour guide—even, for walking an extra mile and a half with us to help us find a bus stop once our tour had finished. Would recommend, and do again.

It is important to note that you so nor start and end at the same place....luck for us the guide helped us get a bus back to our car.

Hi there! I’m sorry you didn’t see that the tour has different start and end points, we do mention that in both the itinerary and in the description of the tour, and additionally train all our guides to show you how to get around the city on public transit afterward, I’m not sure how we could have done better. I’m really sorry you chose to characterize the whole tour by this, from now on we’ll call all our guests the day before to tell them that.

The tour guide, Everett, was professional and had good energy. He was knowledgeable and kept me informed about the tour. I was the only one on tour, and I was happy that the tour was not canceled. Forest Park is beautiful! I am grateful to Everett to take his time and gave me a private tour of the park :) Thank you!

    Great scenery, lackluster tour guide

    , Jun 2021
The scenery was great. The guide lacked experience and knowledge of the area he was covering. However, rocky starts should be expected as we recover from the covid shut downs.
icon Response from Host , Jul 2021
I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your guide; prior to your experience he received several five star reviews so I know he doesn’t lack experience or knowledge about the area. He’s a newer guide and can be dislodged by critical receptions, however, it’s something we’re working on with all our young guides. I’m sorry you found him “lackluster.” It’s true he is young and thus can’t elegantly answer questions about things like the business climate here but he is well versed in the flora and fauna of the trail. As a young person he can definitely use a lot more knowledge about the world outside the hiking trail. We will indeed see rocky starts as we train new guides to respond to the newly demanding expectations of travelers in this post-Covid world.

Really beautiful trail hike. It was not strenuous at all, there was a modest hill that got you sweating for a few minutes, but other than that this was a great few miles meandering through the trees. My guide and guide-in-training were both great conversationalist and full of interesting info. Overall an A+ experience!
