Discover the opulence and legends of Versailles on this full-day private tour. After morning pickup from your central Paris hotel, travel in a luxury minivan to the suburb of Versailles and enjoy skip-the-line access to the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Palace of Versailles. Constructed by King Louis XIV in the 17th century, the extravagant estate was home to several generations of French royalty until the collapse of the monarchy during the French Revolution.
Walk through the glistening Hall of Mirrors and get a glimpse into palace life in the lavishly appointed state apartments, including the former bedroom of Marie Antoinette. During the 1-hour tour, your private guide will share tales of palace intrigue and elaborate court customs, as well as the history of the ill-fated Ancien Régime.
Step outside for a walk through the remarkable Gardens of Versailles. Designed and built over a period of 40 years, the sprawling grounds encompass nearly 2,000 acres (809 hectares) of impeccably manicured orchards, flowerbeds, hedge labyrinths, fountains and pathways designed with the geometric flourish of the French Baroque style. Enjoy a gourmet three-course lunch at a restaurant near the Grand Canal that runs through the center of the gardens. See Itinerary below for a sample menu.
In the afternoon, tour the lavish Grand Trianon palace. Originally built as a personal retreat for Louis XIV, the chateau has been home to a series of royal residents and was renovated by Napoleon during the First French Empire. Continue on to the Queen’s Hamlet — a full-scale replica of a Normandy village and farm commissioned by Marie Antoinette as a private countryside escape.
After your full day of touring, relax on the return drive to Paris, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the late afternoon.
