Ariel was a great tour guide and we had a fantastic trip! The sloth sanctuary is worth a visit especially to help support the work they do with the animals.

The guide was great but you need a clear boat cover. We couldn’t see anything, and the boat always pulled in straight or on the right side. We were on the left. Couldn’t see anything.

Very knowledgeable guide (Juan), and very skilled driver. Boat captain must have X-ray vision to find some of the animals she did. Monkeys were a little bashful. Overall a great day

Got close to the sloths as they tended to stay high in the trees in the wild. Great to see them up close.

A Lifetime Adventure In A Day With Monkey Tours.

We had an amazing adventure with our guide Aerial. They arrived at our hotel for pickup exactly on time and the brief ride (in an air conditioned Transit van) to Gamboa was a delight. Two couples from USA, one from Germany (and my wife speaks fluent German and I, a little, and Aerial a lot) so we all got along great. A short but invigorating ride on the canal took us to Monkey Island (actually a series of islands) where we encountered not only a handful of boat friendly Capuchins but got to witness an encounter between two “families” of howler monkeys…both of which wanted the same territory. We had three boat visits…two juveniles and an alpha who tried to go through our guide’s pockets. We were grudgingly allowed to feed them ripe bananas which we had brought along and, at one point, the zipper on my wife’s bag broke, whereupon on inventive Capuchin leapt from the back of our boat, dug into my wife’s bag, and deftly made off with a banana, to the delight of all. It was an adventure we’ll never forget…and on the return to Gamboa, we got to sail alongside an oil tanker on the Panama Canal. How many people do you know who can say they’ve done that? The tour was super professional and Aerial was one of the best tour guides we’ve had on any tour, anywhere in the world. He is the epitome of the beautiful, brilliant and proud Panamanian people. This is a must do…it’s not inexpensive, but is worth it for the pick up service and quality and professionalism of the guides. You will never forget your morning in the Monkey Islands.

Great Monkey Island Tour Experience
AnneH
, Sep 2021
The Monkey Island experience was incredible, and we will remember it forever. The guides were experts about getting us to the right place in the rain forest (it did not rain) via a small boat (holds about 10 people), and called the monkeys via whistles in the wild. They fed the monkeys bananas right on our boat, and then let us feed them. We also saw a big turtle in the wild, which the guide picked up out of the water. Our guides also shared the history of the area as we rode on the Panama Canal to get to the Monkey Island. When we went to the Sloth Sanctuary after the boat ride, it was a little bit of a let down because the sloths were in a caged area like at a zoo (although we saw sloth's on the boat trip from a distance). The butterflies were also fun to see at the sanctuary, but we just preferred the boat trip 10x more. Take your own snacks because they only provide water. Highly Recommended.

This excursions was my favorite from my trip. We saw an anteater, sloth, crocodile, and of course three types of monkeys. They did get in our boat and were decently friendly with the bananas and water. Alex is an amazing guide and was so knowledgeable. Went to the sloth preserve after and that was amazing Thomas was an excellent guide also. Highly recommend this excursion!

Such a fun tour! Our guide was incredibly informative, giving us a tour of the city on our ride to the docks. The boat ride was really beautiful, and we got some monkeys on our boat! Visiting the Gamboa reserve was fun, and the sloths were perfect. I wish I could have held one! :) Overall a really fun 5 hours, would definitely recommend the combo tour!

Family of 4

All in all, my family enjoyed this tour. If we were to do this tour again, we would either leave much earlier than the 7:30 pickup, or one in the late afternoon or early evening. The reason for this is that by the time this tour arrives to see the monkeys, they are pretty much full by the earlier tours feeding them and they are not active. We did see sleeping Howler monkeys high up in the trees. The sloth sanctuary was fantastic, but don’t get your hopes up for the opportunity to touch or hold one. This is a facility that attempts to release injured adults or abandoned babies. There was plenty of water available on the van, but bring food or snacks as the only opportunity for food is at the sloth sanctuary. Think nut mix, chips and granola bars.

Hello: Thank you for your review. We will try to start this tour earlier but in some hotels breakfast is prepared at 7.00 AM so we will analyze in which cases it is possible to start earlier. We hope a safe flight back home.
