Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel.

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as you airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water.

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Mississippi River
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Stop At:
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

Humor, nature - pure enjoyment

First and foremost, we are grateful for the company for accommodating us as we arrived late due to getting lost on the way. We were fortunate to have Corey as our fearless Bayou Tour leader. What we most appreciated was his sense of humor and knowledge about the bayou. We have three teenagers, 17, 15 and 12, and every single one of them enjoyed the experience tremendously, the nature, the varying speeds of the boats and the sheer exhilaration of being on the Bayou. Not a criticism but just a piece of advice for others, dress warmly (we took our tour on a 70 degree day but the wind on the Bayou had my kids all in goose bumps).

Our experience with the lady who answered the phone wasn't good. We had scheduled pick-up from our hotel (a small one in the French Quarter). At the last minute our hotel got changed to a sister hotel. The first thing the next morning, the day of our Airboat ride, I called. Even though our hotel was 5 blocks away they would pick us up there. We received no pick-up instructions so we walked to the old hotel. Our pick-up area was 2 blocks away. We did make it thanks to our driver Charles. The adventures it's self was wonderful. Ian our guild was top notch. We would do this again.

Great trip and awesome crew and guide. We were a little late and they waited, appreciated that. Little more than an hour the whole trip and you didn't feel time. We could see an alligator 10 feet long, turtles and birds. Also touched a little alligator the guide had with him. He also explains things about nature surrounding and tips. Amazing experience, very recommended.

Our guide Jay was super friendly and informative. The airboat was so much fun to ride! My 9 and 12 year olds said it was their favorite part of our vacation. We weren’t sure we’d see any alligators since it’s a colder month, but we saw three! One was a 6-footer!

It was too windy and cold, never saw any alligators. Spring and Summer are better times to see alligators, since they are warm- blooded.
