Private Day Tour to Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Oberammergau from Munich

Not an enjoyable experience. I saved on my phone the message I got from the driver that he called me because we were late. The delivery of my answer was "not delivered" as I was in customs & No service. We were a1/2 hour late. I called Viator as soon as possible & grabbed a cab. Lucky the cab driver spoke English as Viator driver seemed to not speak English. The cab driver said Viator's driver wanted us to meet him at a McDonalds. Not knowing the area I said yes--it was a remote area well out of Munich & cab fare was $50 Euro plus tip. The cab driver then informed us that the Viator driver wanted us to take the train back from the Castle tour. I have never been to Germany & do not know how to navigate the train. I immediately said NO -unacceptable. After the 2 drivers talking, the cab driver told the Viator driver that this was not good business. We left with the Viator driver unsure of what would happen to us. We had to agree to one castle only in order for the Viator driver to take us to the Neuschwannstein Castle. The Viator driver then sent his father & friend to pick us up & go back to Munich inn older van with paint supplies in the back. Definitely this tour was not worth the money.

This tour was all day, and although our guide was late arriving, it was due to a traffic accident, so we couldn’t really fault him. We enjoyed our castle visits, and especially enjoyed the train ride back to Munich...2 hours through the Bavarian Alps! Very enjoyable!!

The driver was an hour late due to traffic OK but then we were rushed and didn't feel we had time to explore. The driver seemed to only want to know what the USA was like and how it would be if he were to come here and try to be a citizen. He would drop us off and disappear while we waited for him.

First of all, the driver/guide sent to us had difficulty expressing himself in English so we did not get much meaningful information from him relating to the places we visited. And he had body odor. We later on found out that that driver/guide is actually the son of the tour guide. We got to meet the tour guide later on, when he gave us the tickets at Linderhof, then the tickets at Neuschwanstein. Secondly, our schedule of activities was re-arranged at the very last minute, when we were just about to reach the place - instead of going to Linderhof Castle first, we were brought to Oberammergau where the driver dropped us in a street corner and told us we have 20 minutes to explore the place which was barely enough time to find a toilet on our own!. This, when your tour overview said we can expect to enjoy some free time for lunch, sightseeing or shopping in the lovely village of Oberammergau. What made matters worse was that we arrived in Linderhof, from Oberammergau, 30 minutes ahead of the time indicated in the Linderhof tickets given to us, which meant we could have spent at least 20 minutes more in Oberammergau. Thirdly, after completing the tour of Linderhof Castle, we were told that there was no time to stop for lunch anywhere, so we were each given a sausage sandwich, small bottle of coca-cola and small pack of chips to eat in the van on our way to Neuschwanstein. In other words, the lunch included in the tour package we paid for turned out to be nothing more than a sausage sandwich, small bottle of coca-cola and small pack of chips! Fourth, when we got to Neuschwanstein, there was a long line of people for the carriages that take people up to the castle. Our tour guide the real tour guide cut the queue as he said we will miss out ticket schedule, then left us on our own, to suffer the dagger looks and snide remarks of the other people in the queue. We did not get to the castle in time anyway, so we had - again, on our own - to plead with the castle guards to let us in despite the fact that we were late. Finally, when we got down from the castle, the van was not there and we had to call the tour guide to ask where the van is. He rudely replied that it was on the way and we should just wait. The van arrived 15 minutes. Viator should seriously consider not ever again engaging the services of Bavarian Castle Tour! They are ruining your name and reputation. For this particular recent European trip of ours, I booked 4 tours with you and was very happy with the 3 other tours. But this castles tour was a very, very bad experience for us!

Had done the 2 castles and Oberammergau before but the private tour ands the train back made the day a much better day ... great trip

The attractions are definitely worth visiting and the driver was able to organise the tickets and transfers. It wasn't particularly clear whether the driver was a guide as well as he seemed to explain things about attractions but not in the usual professional, educated and clear manner you would expect of a guide. Also our pick-up from the castle to train station almost never happened and we thought we where going to be stranded at Neuschwanstein. A different driver eventually picked us up about 20 mins late from arranged time and we made to the station with just a few minutes to spare. The train ride back to Munich makes this a very long day.

The driver picked us up at 9am sharp at the hotel. Nice clean van, great guy that drove us around. It's not really a private tour though. They are nice enough to get us the tickets but we still do the regular tour. The only gripe I had was that we were thrown on a train at Fussen to Munich and you have to make your way back to the hotel. Also it was a 2 hour train ride. All in all it was a cool trip. Castles were awesome.
