Centrally located Munich hotel, at the Munich train station (Hauptbahnhof) or at the Dachau memorial.

This half-day excursion begins with a tour guide meet and greet at your Munich hotel or München Hauptbahnhof (Munich Central Station), the main railway station in Munich. After boarding a train there, it’s approximately a 30-minute ride north to Dachau.

The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site was the first Nazi concentration camp in Germany during the Holocaust. It served as a model for all the other camps that followed it. See the photographs, documents, reconstructed cell blocks, crematorium, administration headquarters and much more on a tour of both the camp and museum.

Find out little-known facts about the Nazis linked to this site, like Heinrich Himmler, and listen to the stories of some of Dachau’s 200,000 prisoners—communists, German dissidents, gay men, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, as well as Jewish and Polish men and women.

This private tour is a customized experience, so be sure to include any specific requests and feel free to ask the guide questions at any time. After touring the site, spend some free time exploring the museum. Then, return by train to Munich.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site
Meet your guide at Munich Central Station or your centrally located Munich hotel, then take a train to Dachau where a bus will then transport you to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. During the Third Reich, Dachau was referred to as the ‘parent camp,’ serving as a training ground for the genocide to follow. A staggering range of persecuted people were sent to Dachau — including communists, German dissidents, gay men, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jewish people and Polish citizens — upward of 200,000 people were imprisoned here. Today the camp stands as a memorial site with many of its original features serving as reminders of a time in history that should never be forgotten. Explore the site with your guide, and see the gatehouse with its Arbeit macht frei (Work makes you free) gateway, bunker and the crematorium. You can also visit the administration headquarters and see the rail platform where prisoners once arrived. As you walk around, listen to your guide give the background on each site, learning about victims and perpetrators whose names were linked to the camp. Heinrich Himmler helped set up Dachau, and used it as a place to train the SS ("black shirts") guards. If there is something you would like to know more about, simply let your guide know. After exploring the camp, take some free time to browse the museum if you like, and then return by train to Munich Central Station.

English Speaking Tour of Dauchau for family of 4
lmullen222
, Feb 2020
My husband, two adult daughters (early 20s) & I spent the day with Jason for English language tour of Dachau. After promptly meeting us in our hotel lobby, he drove with us into Dachau from Munich in our rental car. Logistically, our trip was perfect from door to door, parking and the drive were easy, I drove the 30 minute trip with gps & Jason began with an overview of Dachau carefully & professionally answering our questions. Jason is an excellent tour guide. His has vast knowledge of WWII, Hitler & the Third Reich coupled with sensitivity explaining Dauchau complex history & it's significance today as a Memorial Site. We highly recommend Jason Eilers.

Excellent And Worthwhile Tour

My husband and I toured Dachau this week. Our tour guide was Jeff. He was amazing and so very knowledgeable. He met us at the Munich train station and guided us to Dachau. The site, as a memorial is so well done. I found it a fitting tribute to those who died there as well as those who suffered and survived. Is it hard to see the pictures and the video? Yes but...I think it is extremely important to tour it. With the rise of hate and hate groups around the world we must always remember what happened there and do all in our power to prevent it from ever happening again. Please consider touring Dachau when you are in the area. We must never forget.

Great tour and great guide

Our guide was Keith and he was amazing. So respectful, so informative and so helpful. This tour is not one you can gush about - its sobering. The tram and train ride was great - a good introduction for us. Keith took us all over the camp - explained everything very well and with so much respect. Dachau is confronting - theres not much else you can say. Keith was fantastic and we cannot recommend him highly enough.

DACHAU 4 hour tour

Our guide was on time. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Dachau and Germany. I believe our guide's name was Hakeem. He had a great sense of humor, and he answered our questions. We had a deadline to get back to our tour group, and he made sure we were back on time. Hakeem took care of the details such as train passes and buses. This read an excellent tour for us. I highly recommend this tour.

Brandon provided a great tour to Dachau. Originally the tour was supposed to be for 3 of us but one person has mobility issues and decided that the public transportation to Dachau was too difficult for her to navigate. Of the two of us who were left, one person had been to Dachau before about 25 years ago. Even though she had been there before and had taught history in school, she thought that the presentation from Brandon provided a lot of new information and was well worth taking the tour.

Private Tour: Dachau

We highly recommend this private tour to Dachau. Our tour guide, Achim, did an excellent job explaining the historical context of our visit to Dachau. He had incredible knowledge not only about Dachau, but overall perspective of the WWII era. We recommend a private tour for this visit since we left with better understanding and ability to ask more questions rather than a group tour.

An Important and Sobering Experience

Our guide Achim was excellent in providing knowledgeable, in-depth commentary during our time together. While it is difficult to absorb and witness the level of atrocity, it is important to confront, and more so to pay respects to those who suffered and lost their lives here.
