A private tour of the Dachau Memorial

Alun Evans was a wonderful guide. He is so knowledgeable about the Memorial and made a real difference in my understanding of the history of Dachau.

Thanks a lot for your review Kay! It was a pleasure to meet you, and I enjoyed our conversations. I make a point that even if only one person books, the tour still goes! For anyone booking at the moment with numbers down, it is likely you will get a private tour!

We did this tour a few days ago and Alun our tour guide was very engaged, knowledgeable, and made sure that we were well-informed about the things we saw and guided us well throughout the entire camp. All in all, an excellent trip made even better by an excellent tour guide. I recommend this trip to anybody.

Alan was a wonderful guide for myself and my daughters. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone thinking of visiting Dachau.

Thanks Dennis, its one of the rewarding parts of my mission to educate at Dachau that I get to inform young people about the place. The next generation will carry the baton and they need to be informed about these things. I am always impressed by their direct and intelligent questions.

Outstanding guide Very knowledgeable and importantly was able to relate to interest levels of each member of the group Highly recommend Alun as the tour guide
icon Response from Host , Feb 2020
Thanks Norman, that means a lot, it can be challenging to give everyone attention in the group but I do my best, obviously the group dynamics can dictate that somewhat. For me daily I love it because I am meeting new people every day!

If you go, book with Alun!

Our guide Alun was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and extremely sensitive with what is a very difficult part of history to relay. He took time to relay events which spanned 12 years (prior, during and at liberation). I enjoyed his insight, felt he was very well read and extremely sensitve. I know that this may not be the easiest job in the work to do repeatedly, but i felt that Alun was compelled to educate us and did this with respect to us, to the subject and to the atmosphere of the site. I also liked how the groups are kept small, giving us plenty of individual attention and answering every single question we had (which as you can imagine with the subject matter - were plentiful).

Thanks for the great review. You are right I do feel compelled to take people to Dachau. The only way we can try and create a better future is through education and humility. I am very encouraged that the majority of people I take to the Memorial feel the same. All the best!

I can not say enough about how powerful and insightful this tour was, especially led by Alun. His knowledge of the history of the events that happened here were impacted all of us. The group size was perfect at only 8 people. Alun, thank you so much!

Excellent tour our guide was very knowledgeable and made it very interesting. Had anecdotal stories to go along with the history, can highly recommend him.

Thanks for the feedback! Testimony of survivors is so important on the tours in terms of engaging people. Making it more relatable if you like. What happened in the camp system is so surreal that you need that human perspective to realise that it did actually happen. Book recommendation is also something that I like to do, so as to encourage an ongoing process of education. kindest

Great way to see Dachau

This was a really special experience. The guide used to work for larger companies but did not like running tours with large groups because he felt it distracted from the experience. He does this on his own. You take public transportation to get to the memorial site. Some people may not like this approach... I thought it added a special experience to the day. The group was very small and you get all the personal attention you could want. He is incredibly knowledgeable. He also builds in enough free time at the end to wander around on your own or to go through the onsite museum in detail if you want. The only thing I would have changed would have been to add an extra 10 minutes at the memorials (Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant) as I wanted to view them in more detail and they were at the far end of the site (we used part of our free time to walk back).

Hi Jerry, On this tour public transport is the way to go. people get an idea of the vibe of the city and how the locals go about their business in terms of commuting. Journeying this way also I feel, prepares one in terms of setting the scene for Dachau memorial ie. reflecting en route. I am happy you got value from the tour and have noted your comments about the memorials. kindest

Best Tour of Dachau
Robin_from_Maine
, Oct 2019
Alun Evans is an excellent guide and is perfect for a tour at Dachau. He took care of all the travel details from central Munich to Dachau and back using the quickest and most efficient means possible. Many other tours do not cover all travel aspects. Alun is very informative and interesting. His commentary was very thought provoking, as well as providing a detailed historical perspective and timeline. He left sufficient free time to investigate individual interests. We highly recommend.

Hi Robin, thanks for your valued feedback! Yes , i think the great thing about doing the tour is that all the logistics are taken care of for you, all a guest has to do is turn up and the rest we take care of. All the best!
