One of the best tours I have ever done
David_B
, Jun 2022
Fantastic day out. Booking was very simple and received communication via Whatsapp thereafter to keep me updated. The driver Mahmoud was bang on time and a really friendly and genuine guy. The conversation in the car made the journey feel not as long and we all felt at ease and relaxed. Lovely modern air conditioned car with leather interior ensured myself and my two children were very comfortable. Once in Luxor we met up with our guide Abdul and changed to a larger mini van vehicle, again fully air conditioned and just for our use, plenty of space to spread out and put your things. Abdul is a great guide and very knowledgeable about Egyptian history. My children were very nervous about venturing out in Egypt, but I must say both Mahmoud and Abdul really put them both at ease. I booked a private tour for Luxor as I wanted to have some flexibility with the schedule as there were some places I wanted to spend more time than others. For example, most tours restrict you to just the 3 tombs in the Valley of the Kings included in your ticket, but we wanted to visit 5 tombs. Having a private tour enabled us to have that flexibility to spend a little more time here and a little less time somewhere else. That made the day and the memory feel a lot less rushed. If you are looking to take a trip here I would seriously consider booking a private tour over a group tour for the relatively small extra cost, you will not regret it. I forgot to ask to purchase a photo pack from Abdul the guide for the Tutankahmun tomb as you are not meant to take pictures in that tomb without purchasing a photo pass. I only remembered this the day after getting back, so I sent Mahmoud a message via Whatsapp asking if he could help as my daughter really wanted the picture pack. He made a special effort to pick up a pack for us on his next visit to Luxor and got someone to deliver it to our hotel a few days later. On top of this great service he also said we did not have to pay for it. Wonderful customer service and a very thoughtful touch. Many companies and businesses in Egypt feel like they are there just to get as much money out of you as possible, but not this company. It is a long day, but is truly a once in a lifetime experience, so it is worth it. If you are going to do it, do it right is my advice. For those who would like an idea of the itinerary. We were picked up at our hotel bang on 4am as promised (don't forget to ask your hotel for a breakfast box the day before). We stopped for a toilet break and to eat our hotel breakfast for around 20 minutes at around 7am. Toilet costs 5EGP each and ensure you ask for toilet paper BEFORE you go in. The sellers here are very pushy and can be annoying to say the least. Best bet is to not engage with them here, eat your food, go to the toilet and leave. The prices are very overpriced and your guide will help you pick up something similar or the same in Luxor for 20% of the price. We arrived in Luxor around 9am. We visited the Valley of the Kings first, which I preferred as it was quiet and more importantly cooler in the morning. Most group tours visit here last just so you know, so around 3 or 4 in the afternoon which is usually the hottest part of the day in Egypt. We visited 5 tombs in total. 3 that were included in the ticket and 2 which were extra cost which I was aware of. Important point to note, you have to buy ALL tickets at the entrance and this is someway from the tombs. So if you want to visit extra tombs tell your guide in advance and he will help you purchase these at the beginning, otherwise you will be making a long journey back and forth or missing out. The first tomb we went in was KV62, Tutankhamun's tomb. This was an extra 300EGP each. The tomb is very small compared to all the others we visited and to be honest not really worth the extra cost, but my one daughter was really eager to see it and Tutankhamun's mummified body is actually in the tomb here for you to see. Next we visited KV9, Ramesses V &VI tomb. This was an extra 100EGP each. If you visit the valley this is the one extra ticket you want to purchase. This tomb is huge and is the best by far, you will not be disappointed. The colours are so vibrant and there is so much to see and being an extra ticket purchase much quieter than the other tombs. Next we visited 3 tombs that were included in the entrance ticket. I took our guide Abduls advice on which ones to visit. We went into KV11, Ramesses III, probably the best tomb that is included in the entrance ticket. Then KV16, Ramesses I, a very steep and deep tomb and very hot inside. The colours and detail in here where phenomenal. The last tomb we visited was KV6, Ramesses IX. I really wanted to visit KV2, Ramesses IV, but this tomb is currently closed for restoration. After the valley we took a short drive to queen Hatshepsut’s temple. Another wonderful sight, but it was blisteringly hot by this time and my daughters were struggling. Abdul offered very kindly to look after them in the shade on the bottom level for me so I could go off and look around by myself. Another great example of the advantage of a private tour, especially if you are taking children with you. After this we visited a family run Alabaster shop/factory. Everyone here was called Mohammed, so very easy for names lol. As with all tours in Egypt you get these stops for the guides etc to get the chance to make a little extra cash in commission if you buy anything. To be honest this was a very enjoyable visit. They showed us how everything was made and it was done and it was done in a comedic way that my kids really enjoyed. They even had them both up having a go themselves. The shop is very nice inside, fully air conditioned and with nice clean toilets for you to use with no charge. The owner will also offer you a free drink, like tea, Pepsi, fruit Juice or water with no pressure to purchase if you do not want to. We were showed around briefly and then left to browse by ourselves with no sales pressure, the only time in Egypt I experienced this. As a result of feeling relaxed I actually ended up buying about 5 items from them, which usually I would not have done. After the shop we headed towards the Nile river for lunch. Here you have 2 options. Lunch is included either way, but you can either stay on the mini bus to cross the river and eat at a restaurant on the other side which is included in the price or you can pay £15 extra each and have lunch on a boat out on the Nile. You will be asked which you want to do. We chose to pay the extra and I feel this was worth the extra cost as how often in your life will you get the chance to do that? Your guide will give you some options for lunch, like salad, chicken, beef etc Also deserts and water are served. The boat is all yours with just the boat driver and your guide with you and lasts for around an hour. Once this is over you head to the dock on the opposite side of the river. My daughters started to feel a little sea sick after lunch and another great example of flexibility and service here, Abdul said we can go now if you like and because we were cutting it short he asked my daughters if they would like to go on a horse and carriage ride around Luxor. This was a lovely touch from Abdul and my daughters were cheered up a lot by this. We did not have to pay extra for this horse ride and it lasted around 20 minutes and went around the Karnak Temple area of the city. After the horse and carriage ride ended we were outside the entrance of the Karnack temple. It was around 3pm by now and extremely hot. We headed into the visitors centre and my daughters asked to stay in there rather than walk around in the heat. It is very safe to do so here and plenty of places to sit. Abdul and I then went outside where he showed me the temple complex and answered all of my questions. He also took many pictures for me with me in them. Once finished we headed back into the visitors centre and that is where the tour ends, this was around 4pm for us. Mahmoud met us here and all of our bags etc that we had left in the mini van had been transferred into the boot of the car ready. We said goodbye to Abdul and gave him a good tip for the wonderful experience. On the way back you can stop for a toilet break and/or a snack if you wish. None of us needed the toilet and we purchased some snack food and drinks at the Karnak shops before getting back in the car, so we elected not to stop and get back sooner. We arrived back at our hotel around 7.30pm, so in plenty of time to grab dinner etc. All in all a fantastic trip. I wanted to write a thorough review of this trip, so others can get a better idea of what to expect, but to also highlight what a great experience Essential Egypt Tours are offering for a very competitive price. Book with them, you will not be disappointed.

Driver was good and careful. Guide was knowledgeable. She was really nice when I got sick due to the heat. We took a break and completed the tour after I'd been given a drink and some time to rest inside.

Amazing experience to Luxor!

Wow what a fantastic, smooth and very well organised day. We booked in advance for this tour and it was great. Firstly we were contacted via WhatsApp a couple days before by the lovely driver Mahmoud to confirm hotel pick up information and timings. We had further confirmation the day before to make sure we were all aligned and picked up on the day at 5am from our hotel in Hurghada. Mahmoud picked us up in his air conditioned car, he was very friendly and spoke good English. He made us feel very comfortable and we slept most of the distance to Luxor. I have an anxiety condition and was extremely anxious about the journey to Luxor but was completely calmed by the process. Once we arrived in Luxor we met our amazing tour guide there Abdul. This man is very clever and knows his stuff about Egyptian culture and history. We went to Valley of the Kings first and was guided along the way with opportunities for questions at any point. We then travelled via car by Mahmoud’s father, Ali (while Mahmoud had a rest from driving). Ali was very nice and polite and made us feel comfortable. We arrived at Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari and Abdul bought us fresh waters and cold drinks to keep us hydrated. We learnt at lot this place was fascinating. Ali and Abdul then took us to their families sculpture museum and shop and showcased the ancient Egyptian ways of sculpting ornaments out of natural rocks found in Hurghada. This was a great process and very interesting, they were selling properly made and beautiful ornaments which we purchased from Mohamed. He was lovely and did not put us under any pressure to purchase if we didn’t want to. However the items were handmade and beautiful so we bought some. We then opted for an additional Nile river cruise and homemade traditional food to enjoy on the boat. This was lovely and tasty. Abdul came with us and accompanied us all day, so we were always kept safe with him. Finally we explored the Karnak Temple, and we saved the best till last! This temple is amazing and the details are still intact. You will feel like an ant walking around this beautiful place. Abdul explained all the history and answered our questions along the way. Abdul then asked if we wanted to go anywhere else since it was around 3:30pm that we had finished. It was nice to have this option however we were quite tired so decided to go back to the hotel. After a rest Mahmoud then picked us up, we said goodbye to Abdul (brilliant tour guide!) and made our way back to the hotel with Mahmoud, which was great and we again slept most of the way back. Arriving back to the hotel around 6pm. Overall this was an AMAZING day and we highly recommend this to anyone. Thank you to Abdul, Mahmoud, Ali and Mohammed and to Essential Egypt Experience for this trip! We will return in the future!

Perfect trip

This tour was perfect from start to finish. We chose the private trip for added flexibility and it didn't disappoint. Got picked up from the hotel as planned. Our driver Amr took us safely to Luxor, we had a comfort stop half way and felt safe throughout the journey. We met our guide Abdul in Luxor and he showed us around the temples, he was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We went on the Nile optional boat ride, where we had a lovely free lunch. Would definitely book with these guys again, very safe, friendly and flexible.

Amazing experience from our guide Abdelrhman (Abdul for short) :). He was super knowledgeable on everything and really wanted to give us the best possible time. The tour was really private, just the three of our family. Driver (Ahmed) was with us all the time as well. Would highly recommend!

Best way to enjoy Luxor

We had an amazing day! The tour was completely private, with car and chauffeur. Comfortable and fast drive to Luxor. Arrived at 9h in Karnak temple. Our guide Wael was very fun, caring and knowledgeable. He provided a good balance between guided parts and free time, where we could enjoy the history on our own pace. The day was very well arranged, no down time, planning was perfect and the driver was always waiting for us at the end of each visit. We took the optional private boat trip on the river Nile during lunch time, which we can definitely recommend. Beautiful sights and romance was in the air! Lunch on the boat was also great, with delicious beef Tajine, grilled chicken and plenty of sides to indulge in. Back at the hotel in Hurghada around 18h00. Perfect! Can't recommend this tour enough, it's the goto way to enjoy Luxor when you're in Egypt.

We had a wonderful day with Well (Wael) looking around the fabulous sites of Luxor. He was obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about the places we visited and he made the day easy and one to remember. We went on the boat trip and it was a wonderful addition to the day. The drivers were prompt and got us there and back quickly and safely. Thanks for a wonderful day!

Best tour guide in Luxor!

Excellent driver, excellent guide! Our car from Hurghada to Luxor was very nice and air conditioned, with water and wifi! Our guide, Wael, was full of knowledge and so very friendly! He was polite and explained so much. Lunch was very good, I recommend paying the little extra to eat on the boat on the Nile. It is a very long day, but so worth it to see some of ancient Egypt history!
