Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Make your own way to Sawgrass Recreation Park just a short drive from downtown Fort Lauderdale, in the heart of the Florida Everglades.

Begin with an exciting airboat tour of the Everglades, and skim along the grassy water at speeds up to 40 miles per hour (64 kph) while learning about the area’s subtropical ecosystem from the experienced captain. Look for a variety of wildlife, like alligators, fish, turtles, and wading birds.

After the airboat ride, check out the exhibits inside Sawgrass Recreation Park:

The Reptile Exhibit features dozens of species that are both native and exotic to Florida—from turtles, iguanas, and snakes to Cannibal, an intimidating 1,000-pound (454-kg) alligator. The park’s handlers are always happy to talk about how these animals live and survive in the wild.

In the Glades Exhibit, learn about the history of the area and its conservation efforts in a video presentation. Then check out the African spur thigh tortoises, which range in size from 20 to over 100 pounds (9 to over 45 kg) each, plus rare gopher tortoises (which were rescued from a construction site), iguanas, and colorful peacocks.

And finally, in the Exotic Wildlife exhibit, get a peek at the park's wild cats—panthers, leopards, bobcats, caracals, and more.

Disappointing

Was a bit of a dud. We rode thru the Everglades for 30 minutes - that was it. No scenery as everything looks the same. We saw no gators or anything else. At the last minute the driver/guide pointed out 1 bird and then said we learned a little about the wildlife. We also saw 1 dead gator - that was it. I had people from out of town so it was a bit disappointing to say the least.

Short trip which was expected but we didn’t see any gators and it felt like the operator was in a hurry to get back inside to the AC since it was really hot outside.

Pretty Neat Trip Overall

How Loud the boat motor was. Driver was kind. But He could of told neat and interesting history type stories on the area to keep the guests interested and in gauged. I REALLY Enjoyed watching 1 of the alligators Run across the water to get away from the boat path. But liked riding through the marsh way better than staring at an alligator to see if it was gonna move.

A Memorable excursion to see Gators

The most memorable part of the ride was the Captain's knowledge about the Gators habitat and the fact we were able to see a Gator, swimming near the boat, but not to near. My husband and I truly enjoyed ourselves.

Awesome Everglade Airboat Tour
Ryan_S
, Apr 2021
Christina was very friendly and very welcoming! Our guide, Mike, was very informative and put us on the gators. I enjoyed going early in the morning as there were only a few of us on the boat, ensuring a more intimate experience overall. The enclosures were pretty neat as well to get a sense of all the marine life the Everglades have to offer.

Fourth time is not a charm!
Elizabeth_S
, Apr 2021
Yesterday’s outing was our fourth such trip since December. Prior to yesterday it was our “go to” spot when we had company. Our captain, Sean wasn’t at all engaging. Sean’s speech was hurried and uninterested. It was like he couldn’t wait to get us off the boat. We were very disappointed and a little embarrassed as we had built this outing out to be worth the one hour drive it took to get there. And finally, despite the statement on the website indicating that masks were highly suggested but not enforced, we found that Sean was a strong proponent of masks despite being in the open air! He stated numerous times that masks MUST be worn for the duration the trip even going so far as to single people out who had taken theirs down momentarily! If people have been fully vaccinated… Why do we continue to enforce this nonsense? We won’t be back.
icon Response from Host , Apr 2021
Greetings, we are currently enforcing mask use according to county guidelines. When social distancing is not necessary, it is required to wear masks even when outdoors.
