Started late, went downhill from there

Complete disaster. Driver arrived about 10 minutes late in an unmarked Mercedes passenger van. And then just sat in his van like he was waiting for something. After roughly 20 minutes, he got out approached our small group, asked if we were there for the tour. Without any other pleasantries, he talked about how much time we had for each of the stops and that it was critical that we stay on schedule because he had to be back on time for a date. Seriously he said that. So we all piled into the van and away we went. There was no tour guide and the driver never said another word until we got to San Gimignano, and only then to reiterate that we had to be back to the meeting point on time to stay on schedule. He then drove off and left us to explore the town on our own. Unfortunately, since we left Florence 30 minutes late, the sun was already setting by the time we got to San Gimignano, and by the time we walked up to the top of the town for the view, it was already dark. So we missed the sunset entirely, on this "sunset tour". Next up, dinner. We drove to a nearby winery, which was quite nice, and got a tour from the winery's staff, and sat down for dinner. This part was great, until halfway through the main course, the winery guide came to tell us that our driver wanted him to remind us of our schedule. In other words, hurry up with our dinner. The pace of our dinner was entirely dictated by the winery, so I'm not sure what the driver expected us to do about it. So we rushed through the dessert course, had to rush through the winery's gift shop, and ran back to the van. We expected a quiet (but quick) return to Florence to end our night. But halfway to Florence, the driver got off the freeway and started taking some back roads to somewhere else. At one point he was obviously lost and had to turn round and go back. My wife was getting quite anxious about this high-strung, and angry driver, and asked him if everything was OK. He replied curtly "Yes, yes everything is ok!" Eventually we arrived at another winery, where there was another group apparently waiting for a ride back to Florence. Turn out this was the tour guide that we were missing our entire trip, in addition to a couple of customers she was taking on some other tour? She was quite nice and pointed out several things on our remaining trip back to Florence. Wish she had been with us the entire time, instead of just the driver. Because we got back so late there were no taxis to take us back to hotel.

Dear Beau M, we are sorry to learn about your disappointment concerning the San Gimignano at Sunset with Chianti Wine Dinner in Barrique Cellar, in a Small Group and after having looked into the issues stressed by you, we think it's necessary to clarify some important points just to settle the problem in a proper context. First of all, we have verified with the driver and it results that he respected the entire schedule of the tour: he left at 4:15 pm, after having waited 15 minutes from the check in time (4:00 pm). He fairly gave you the information regarding the schedule of your tour, the time you had in each stop as it is important to respect the schedule. You were not the only passengers on the tour, there were other few people (who moreover didn't complaint about anything). As per the information you can find on the tour page and on your voucher, for small groups, up to 8 pax, the Tour escort service is replaced with an English speaking driver service, while maintaining unchanged the entire program of the excursion. Regarding the sunset, in Italy in October the sun sets early than the other summer months but you still have the added value of exploring San Gimignano at a very quite time, without the crowd you can find by going there in the morning or in the early afternoon. About the return to Florence, you got there around 15 minutes later than the schedule as the driver reminded you that it was necessary to respect it. We have also verified with the tour leader you met at the end of the tour who said that she took you to the taxi stop near by the train station. At the time of your return to Florence, of course taxis are still available. We hope to have the chance to have you again on one of our tours in the future. Kind regards
