The chapel is also decorated with multi-colored pieces of stone, marble, and gems that reflect the almost royal stature of the Medici family. The Opificio delle Pietre Dure (Hard Stones Factory) was created specifically to supply the materials used in the Medici Chapels, and it is still operating today – and used by restoration workshops and museums all over the world.
