The most knowledgeable guide and informative tour EVER!!
Amy_Z
, Feb 2022
Sebastian was the best tour guide ever. After picking us up in the morning, he started telling us about everything that is related to Ecuador, and most specifically, Cuenca. He was such a knowledgeable guide who didn't mind explaining explaining everything to curious tourists who came to Latin America for the first time in their lives. Our understanding towards this culture was deepened significantly from his words, and he also showed us a lot of sites that were pertinent to the local cultures. His English was so good that there was not a single language barrier. He was patient, kind, and understanding who also wasn't afraid of opening up. I truly developed my affection to Ecuador because of his vivid depiction of this beautiful country. Will definitely come back and request him specifically for the tour!

The train has not run since March 2020. Via tour is aware. Ruins are closed. Spent three unnecessary days in Cuenca to ride this train. Trip booked months ago via tour was aware of this the whole time. We got a call from tour guide night before.
Response from Host , Jan 2022
Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry for your bad experience. However, I have to say on our side that the TITLE of the TOUR is Devil's Nose HIKE, not train. In the description of the tour it says clearly that the train is not operating at the moment, however, we are offering the hike or biking activity as an option. I looks like you didn't read both the name of the tour and the description.
Also, we offer you the chance to switch things to be able to visit the Ingapirca Ruins and we actually did visit it on the next day on the way back to Guayaquil remember? We wanted to do a full tour of the ruins as compensation for the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, when we were there in the you didn't want to and just stay there for 10 minutes and leave.
Also, we refund the 100% of that you paid since you didn't want to do the tour.
This kind of review really hurt small business like us and We think that you review is unfair.
Great Ruins and not so great hike

My daughter and I visited Cuenca a month ago and took this tour. The ruins are absolutely beautiful and the drive there was fantastic. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. We learned a lot! However, the devil's Nose Hike was a little disappointing. It turns out that the train has been permanently suspended (to be fair, the tour operators did warn us via whasapp the day before). We did not take the hike because by the time we arrived at the Devi's Nose it was lunch time (the drive from the ruins is quite long) and the sun was bearing directly down on it. The view from above is spectacular, though, but be warned that it seemed like a tough hike with no shade in sight. I believe this tour should be two separate half day tours, I am not sure the same kind of people would be interested in two very different experiences.
Response from Host , Oct 2021
Hello Cristina, thank you for you feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the tour with us. In fact, this is a full day tour and due to the driving distance is not posible to do it in two half days. Its a long day but the views are worth the drive, is actually one of the most scenic areas in Ecuador. We are a bit disappointed to get juts 4 starts but we will keep working hard to find out how to improve this tour, and your feedback is very important to us. If you ever back in Cuenca we hope to have you onboard again!
Happy travels!

Sebastian was wonderful and explained the history of the area as well as fascinating facts about the city and the indigenous groups in the area. We came away from the experience with a list of more things to read and learn and felt like we gained a whole new perspective on the varied and beautiful culture of Ecuador.
Go for it!

We had a great experience; our guide Wilson is profoundly knowledgeable and gave us a very immersive experience in Ecuador. He went beyond the Devil's Nose and Ingapirca RUins, adding a visit to a local farm upon our request. Lunch at the local restaurant overlooking the valley was also one of the several highlights during our experience. I recommend this experience, shoutout to Wilson and the driver for making our trip to Ecuador memorable.

Devils nose area

, Mar 2021
The Devils nose area was very beautiful. We loved the bike ride down to the river and spectacular views on the optional hike up. The lunch at the top was very good with great views. Our guide Wilson was very informative and knowledgeable on the culture, architecture, political, and history of the area.
Initially we booked the trip because it advertised seeing the Incapirga ruins, but we only able to see it from the road because they are only open Fri-Sun.
Response from Host , Apr 2021
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the Devil's Nose bike and hike tour. It's a very nice area and Wilson ads a special touch with the knowledge of the area. It's a pity that we could not visit the Ingapirca Ruins, they are temporarily closed. We hope to have you again in Cuenca in the future and then we can do the Ingapirca Ruins tour! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Sincerely,
Cuenca Bestours Team
Spectacular Mountain Scenery

We enjoyed a long day filled with spectacular scenery and excellent commentary from our very knowledgeable bi-lingual guide, Adrian. Also, Jose, our bus driver is a real pro! The Devil’s Nose train was fun and the sights of the Andes and the people were awesome. The sun shone brightly for Ingapirca site. Delicious lunch in a restaurant was provided. We would have never seen this part of Ecuador had we not taken this tour. It was so worth it.

History Laid Out Before You!!
Robert_C
, Feb 2020
Our guide, Christian, was a delight and so full of information that all of us kept close to him as we wandered along. The train ride was very interesting, especially knowing the time it took to complete and the number of lives lost to produce it. The small museum, the replica house and the traditional dancers all made for a lovely time at the train station. The hike around Ingapirca was fascinating as Christian methodically laid out the history of the place. I would highly recommend the trip except for the long van ride to get there. But without the van ride, I wouldn't have seen or learned a thing.

This was a wonderful experience. Picked up at my hotel on time, plenty of ‘rest’ breaks on the long drive, and a terrific experience on the train! Our guide, Luis was the best- knowledgeable, thoughtful and accommodating. The history is very real to him and it is obvious that he loved his country, his history and people, and he is very good at his job.
Day trip to Train and Ruins

We had an excellent tour as our guide picked us up promptly and gave out lots of interesting information on the drive to the Devil's Nose. The train trip was spectacular and the experience with the locals at the bottom educational. Although the trip to the ruins was marred by terrible weather, it was still fun to see and learn about. Highly recommended as a tour for these sites!

It was Sunday market day but didn’t have a time to visit it, so sugestions-plan 30-45 min for Alausi. The Devil Nose and Ingapirga were great. Hernan is a great guide and knows a lot, but sugestions - maybe not to share everything he knows with turist- it is difficult to follow even when you have Ph.D. In Latin American studies.

The Devil's Nose Train was amazing . The scenery was just awesome . The natives will give a show/dance . You'll ride back up and eat .Then about a 2hr ride to the ruins . Through the mountains and within the clouds. The temple was small but definitely awesome . Sebastian was our guy and very cool

Definitely recommend! The tour started with a van ride to the Devil's Nose Train, which was fun and was also great to have a bit of time to explore the super cute town, Alausi. Ingapirca was AMAZING and one of the highlights of our trip. Definitely worth the long day for these two sites, and our guide was knowledgeable. The trip was accommodating to us as vegetarians.
