Private Guided Full-Day Tour to Alexandria from Cairo

Before I get started, I would like to point out that this is my first time leaving a bad review as I am a very understanding person. I booked this tour for my wife's 30th birthday and we flew to Egypt specifically for this tour. She has been dreaming about visiting Alexandria! As I knew I had to do everything in my power to make sure this tour happened, I booked this tour via Viator as this experience is well rated and even has a badge of excellence. Because of that, I did not have any alternative plan and my mind was very at ease. On the day of the tour, my wife and I woke up very early and very excited about this tour. The pick up time was 8:00 and we already waiting in the hotel lobby. After 20 minutes past the pick up time, I tried to contact the tour operator via phone, via Viator messaging system, and WhatsApp - no response. However, we were thinking things happen, so let's wait. 40 minutes after the pick up time, nothing. I tried to contact Viator via their WhatsApp platform, which seems to be an automated system or I was dealing with different VIator people. I was asked the same questions multiple times, such as "Did you try to contact the tour operator?" or "Would you like to book another experience?" I tried to book another experience, but it was not as good as what I booked for initially. Also, I was not able to cancel as I might be charged as per the operator's policy. After realizing that I was not getting the help I was expecting, I decided to call Viator. Despite the person on the phone being lovely, there is nothing she could do to assist. She tried contacting the tour operator, without success. Our phone conversation lasted 34 minutes. I had to hang up while she put me on hold because I had to find an alternative plan to make wife's birthday special at past 9:00 in a country I have never visited before. By that time, it was too late to find another option for Alexandria as all the tour operators leave Cairo by 8:00 latest to ensure travelers can visit Alexandria fully. The only other option was to visit Alexandria the next day; however, that was our departure date from Egypt. My wife and I went back to our hotel room and she cried in my arms. That was the first part of her 30th birthday. After my wife settle down, we checked all of the reviews for this tour and noticed that at least two people complained that the tour operator did not show up. I never believed in reviews until that day. This tour has a badge of excellence despite not showing up without any reason. Lastly, to this day, neither the tour operator nor Viator has checked on us to see how things went. I only received the automatic email from Viator "How was your experience?" Bottom line is DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR. If you do, please make sure you have back up plans!

The whole trip was amazingly great, having Noor Nagy as my tour guide was very interesting and very knowledgeable when explaining, the driver Hany was pleasant and friendly. I had a great experience and I extremely recommend it.

Fantastic tour with guide Mary and great driver,saw all the sights and had great fish lunch.Mary is amazing with her knowledge but also her kindness and friendship and would fully recommend this tour and Mary to anyone visiting Egypt

There were several negatives on this tour: 1. The car was extremely dirty; 2. The guide (a very nice guy) had a very heavy assent so it was almost impossible to understand him; 3. At the end of the trip he told the driver to drop him first and then to take us to our hotel. That added to our long trip another 40 min. for no good reason for us; 4. The water was not provided so we had to ask our guide to stop somewhere so we could buy bottled water

In general a good tour, and Mhmoud was an excellent guide. I was able to pick out the parts of the tour I wanted to focus more on, and Mhmoud encouraged me to take my time and enjoy the sights- for me visiting the Alexandria Library was a big must, so taking advice from previous reviews, I made sure to visit there first. You don't get much communication from the company itself at all, and we started 2.5 hours late with little notice from the company. But Mhmoud explained the hold up and it was a one off. Also, be clear that lunch is included, as I had to argue that it was.

I recommend going to Alexandria before going to Luxor so you are not disappointed with the sites there. The service was punctual but our guide was below average comparing to other tours we did in Egypt. She asked for a Big tip when we almost got to the hotel (we did tip her and the driver but not as much as we do with better guides and when not asked for). The library was nice but you can not touch the books and is more a museum.

Great one day solo trip to Alexandria. We efficiently visited multiple historical sites. Ahmed Saad was my guide, very knowledgeable, and did a fantastic job. Raafat was the driver and easily handled crazy traffic in Alexandria.

It was a very nice day to Alexandria with our guide Yasser. He made our day, very professional, caring and funny, we lauged a lot with him. Thank you Yasser! Regresaremos!

To begin, this is one of the only tours that did not text us the night before to confirm. They picked us up in the morning in a horrible condition little car that seated 4 people. The car was dirty and reeked of smoke. On our booking, it said that we would be picked up by a minivan with WiFi. Do not fall for that it’s completely a lie. No minivan or WiFi. Just a small broken down car in its last days with no security features. On our way to Alexandria, the driver (Ahmed) drove very dangerously down the freeway at 140km per hour and drove recklessly. His seatbelts were not working so we didn’t even have an option to buckle. When we arrived to Alexandria, the tour guide (Mohammed) began his tour. The tour guide was terrible. The only thing he said at each spot was “this is Roman type. This Egyptian”. He didn’t know anything else. When I asked Mohammed a question, he responded in a very rude and condescending way. He reacted as if I should have known. Additionally, on the trip description, it said we had 2 hours at each spot. In reality, we had around 15 mins at each spot and he was rushing us the whole time. He was also extremely rude to women, especially to my girlfriend who was also on the tour. We had also paid for the meal that included a seafood lunch for two. However, the tour guide refused our lunch and said we still had to pay out of pocket. We let it go but later confirmed with our booking that we did indeed pay for lunch. The cherry on top to all of this was the one place we really wanted to see was the Alexandria library, was not even open. When we arrived, we were told by the security guards that the library was closed. And Mohammed said “yes today is closed”. Like are you serious?! We drove 6 hours to see this and you didn’t even have the common decency to let us know it’s closed on the day of our visit? Seriously, one the the worst tours we have ever been on. These people are rude, condescending, and just overall not good people. We felt very scared for our safety the entire time and we didn’t learn anything. This guy is not an Egyptologist. You’re better off hiring a street vender to take you on the tour. This tour company should be taken off Viator.
