Begin this walking tour with a Zoologischer Garten meet and greet with an expert local guide, who will provide a detailed account of Berlin’s fascinating and oftentimes troubled history — specifically its place in the Cold War. After World War II, Berlin turned from its role as the capital city of Nazi Germany into the pivotal city in a struggle to control war-torn Europe. Berlin became the centerpiece of the Cold War, where the two superpowers collided.

Discover this divided city and retrace the trail of the “death strip” and the Berlin Wall. Walk along Bernauer Strasse, the site of many remarkable escape attempts, and the remains of the wall at the Berlin Wall Memorial and Former Stasi (DDR secret police). Walk under the famous Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin’s most important monuments. It was a symbol of division between Berlin and Germany during the war, but it’s now a national symbol of peace and unity.

Learn about the history of Berlin, from its founding to this divided city of the Cold War, and get a fascinating insight into what it meant to live in the German Democratic Republic, the Eastern Bloc’s most heavily policed state. Find out what it was like to live behind the Berlin Wall.

It has been a wonderful tour trough Berlin done by a lad from Dublinc, Ciaran (I think, wrote ist wrong). As a studied historian he was perfectly educated with all the details you need to know about the „Wall Story“ ( WW I and WW II and the Marschall Plan). Do it folks... Education is always the right choice!

Myself and a friend went on the Cold War tour with the lovely Maria. She was passionate about the subject and that brought lots of facts and accounts of Berlin during that time. The tour itself was fab, visited memorials and covered a large area of the city. Would defo recommend for anyone keen to get a bit of history for the CW and a better understanding of what made Berlin the way it is today!

The tour guide Taylor is a consummate professional along with his delivery of the material including visual aids. Starting at S + U Zoologischer Garten station where it is recommended that you get a day pass for the A+B zones because the tour involves the use of the train. There are many stops along the way with opportunities to browse exhibits/museums pertaining to the tour, to ask questions and take photos.

I absolutely loved this tour and can't recommend it enough. Our tour-guide Maria shared so much great information and inside perspective about this era of Berlin that really helps you understand the city. Also you're moving through different parts of the city and getting to see the impact of communism in different neighborhoods around the city. The ghost station were awesome. The tour ends at the Stasi Museum, which I recommend visiting if you have the chance. A MUST!

Really informative walk into the past

The walk covered a lot of ground including trips on trams and the underground. It was really informative and Jim the guide did an excellent job in giving us a lot of background including a chalk map of how Berlin and Germany was divided which really helped set the picture. As well as seeing the wall itself , we went to the Palace of Tears and the Ghost stations. The pace of the walking was easy so all abilities could join and we had a luch break at a nice local cafe.
