Great Monstries and a great way to explore them

It was very well organised. We had chance to stop at great view points and click pictures. The guide was well versed with the history and facts of the place. The place where we stopped for Lunch was bad though. Terrible options for vegetarians. Although they showed us great restaurants in the city for our way back.
The train times communicated were different from the actual train times. They differed slightly primarily because the change in schedule. Just a call out
Great Experience!

Final destination was good, but not getting there

The part of the trip which was Meteora was amazing. The guide was knowledgeable and had first hand experience.
What we did not like was the train ride. We were sold first class tickets to seats that did not exist. We ended up sitting separately and in an unoccupied handicap area because there was no place to put us, and the conductor tried. Five people were restricted to a bench/folding chair.
Amazing views

This trip is well worth the money and time spent on the train to and from Kalabaka.
Our guide Maria was very knowledgeable and having grown up in the area was able to give personal stories about Meteora and injected a lot of humour during the day.
There was time for lunch if you wanted and to use the bathroom before starting the monasteries tours. Given the heat that day being able to get on and off the well air conditioned bus was a welcome respite and there were many stops aside from the monasteries to take photos including “the fish rock”. Maria knew all the spots for the most incredible views.
Our driver was also excellent offering to take pictures for all the people in our group and taking his time doing different angles to make sure everyone got a photo they loved.
The views themselves are second to none and will literally take your breath away.
During the tour our entire tour group was also provided with a free bottle of water to keep hydrated.
Overall a day to remember and worth every penny.
Breathtaking views & rich history

You will NEVER forget the views of Meteora. This was an incredible adventure that included rich history and breathtaking sights. It is a 4 hour train ride from Athens — so plan accordingly. But once you see the beautiful monasteries and views, you’ll forget all about it. I don’t remember our tour guide’s name, but she was AMAZING! She is from Meteora, so she offered a unique perspective on the area. This is a trip that you’ll never forget … it’s a unique journey into the mountains of Greece with instagram-worthy photos!

Meteora amazing, Viator could improve communications a bit
Susan_M
, Jun 2022
To be clear, Meteora was incredible and not to be missed. That's a 10 out of 10. Viator missed the ball on a few occasions, but in the end it all worked out. For example, we paid for four A Class train tickets from Athens in January for a trip in May and were confirmed, but a couple of weeks before our trip Viator told us the A Class tickets were sold out and asked if we were agreeable to downgrade with a partial refund. I went onto the train website and found four or more A Class seats available each way, and told Viator. They said yes, someone must have released them, this has never happened before, sorry we had to look for ourselves, and they got us A Class tickets. (Maybe it never did happen before, but I can only report on what happened to our group.) Then they kept sending emails saying the tickets would be issued a few days ahead. A few days ahead of time I did receive emails saying "tickets inside!" but no matter what I clicked, it would read "this is not your ticket". I figured I was doing something wrong and contacted them again and they said the train tickets would be sent one day ahead. So there is confusion about what tickets were supposedly included in the email, and when the tickets actually arrive. They also didn't tell us until the last minute what time the train was leaving (was it leaving at 7AM or were we supposed to be at the station by 7AM?) Again, I checked the train website so I could pre-arrange transfers to and from the train station. As I say, in the end it all worked out, but Viator's communication can use a bit of improvement.

Once in a lifetime visit

Ruined by Keytour's greed.
Mark_G
, Jun 2022
This should of been an excellent tour with Maria our tour guide. However, Keytour's decided that rather than keep the numbers small (the description says a minibus) they would book as many people as possible and use a full-size coach.
This resulted in a huge amount of lost time getting in and out of the coach and finding missing members of the tour. We did have much time in the monasteries or any free time in the town.
Don;t get me wrong both our driver and guide were amazing but Keytour's greed ruined a good ay out (again).

Beautiful trip yet physically challenging
Mantea_S
, Jun 2022
Meteora is a beautiful part of Greece. However, it really wasn’t for us as we have mobility issues. Your information did not indicate that it was a physically challenging tour. We should also should have been told that good walking shoes are needed. Some didn’t bring good shoes. Finally your tour guide was excellent as was the bus driver!
Stunning place

Be prepared for a long day, but a good day

The excursion I had originally booked was cancelled last minute so I had a choice, do nothing so close to my birthday or go see a bunch of monasteries.
I think I made the best choice 😆.
It's probably something I wouldn't have chosen for myself, but that's why I love travelling, I get to have new and different experiences. The tour consisted of history and various facts both vast and interesting.
The question you really want to know is, would I recommend this tour, I would recommend if anything you get to see another part of Greece, do something different, and you’re if anything like me, you can put a pin in your map, and say I've been there.
The main downside was time, we packed a lot in one day, and by the end, you are feeling it, and all you wanted to do is sleep, We had to take a 5 hour each way train, (the tickets will be sent to you by email) fortunately, or unfortunately, the train journey back was slightly longer, as more people get on the train, so you have plenty of time to sleep.
I also wished I had more time in the main town we drove through, you know, to get some souvenirs, sit down, relax, and eat some food without feeling rushed. I kept checking my phone, because I thought that I was going to miss the train, and be stuck hours away from where I meant and wanted to be, unable to get back, without ordering one of the most expensive Uber rides ever, plus going off of the number of people on the train, on the way back to Athens, this was likely the last train of the night.
Extra tip: Download a movie or something, the connection on the train is trash, and I don’t even remember if the train has Wi-Fi. If all else fails, just listen to music.

Great driver / guide team
Sharon_R

Excellent tour. Hard-working driver and guide made this over the top. If you want a change of pace from ancient ruins, these monasteries are incredible. Just one complaint. Tour company reserved train tickets for you. They didn't book in time to get first class tickets and the tickets they bought had to be e the worst on the train. Last row in front of partition so upright/no recline and limited leg room for 4 hour trip.
Worth it

Fantastic day out. Trip from Athen was kind of confusing finding the platform. Once we arrived everything was perfect. The tour guide was amazing and we had plenty of time to see the Monasteries. Word of caution. There are a lot of steps to climb for the first two Monasteries. All in all was a great experience and is a must see when visiting Greece.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
