Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Hop aboard your transport in central Amsterdam and settle in for the scenic journey out of the city to the Dutch countryside. En route to several North Holland villages, listen to your audio guide and learn about the passing sights, including dikes and polders—areas of land reclaimed from the water.

Your first stop is at Zaanse Schans, a pretty town on the Zaan River and a popular destination due to its well-preserved windmills, some dating back to the 17th century. See evocations of traditional Dutch life at the historical shipyard, as well as iconic Holland windmills.

Next, continue to Volendam and Marken and admire a quaint scene of fishing boats and the occasional local wearing traditional Dutch dress. In addition to stops in each town, visit a nearby cheese farm for a demonstration and a sampling of its dairy production. A visit to a local shoemaker to admire the art of carving and painting the wooden clogs the Netherlands is known for is also a memorable part of the trip.

You have the option to board a boat for a trip between the two towns. Once you’ve snapped plenty of photos, your tour concludes with the return to central Amsterdam by coach.

Please note that this tour requires a moderate amount of walking.

Nice day trip, but make it earlier

It was nicevto see some countryside and to see a working windmill. The boat ride was nice. It would have been good if they mention that they stop for dinner. Nothing in the write-up mentioned that. Also, an earlier start would be SO much better. 2:45 is far too late. I didn't like getting back at 9 pm.

See the different areas of Nertherlands and their activites presently and also how it has evolved in time. Special thanks to IAN, who was able to explain the different aspects of the tour and kept us involved with his narration and witts that kept us wanting to hear more of his stories.

We really enjoyed our day. It was so neat to see the town and the beautiful windmills. We loved getting the tour of the windmills, the clog factory, the cheese factory, and the stroop waffle place. We enjoy hitting all the highlights of Amsterdam. Our tour guide Peter was great and our bus driver Steven was awesome. He played the keyboard at our stops and had us sing with him. He was super entertaining and both him and Peter were very accommodating and informative.

Loved this tour. I just wish their meeting location is more specified in the site. For someone who went to Amsterdam for the first time, I had some difficulty finding the meeting location. And the men outside of Centraal Station did not seem to know where to direct me as I was told the wrong locations multiple times.

Nice overview of the Dutch countryside with added bonuses

I'm not one for big bus tours. I usually prefer exploring on my own or in small groups. This tour is usually larger, it was about 30 and I suspect the bus can manage 50. It's a great bus. Double decker, new and very comfortable. The bus driver, Yarun (I hope I didn't butcher his name, he was a really nice guy), was skillful, directions were very clear for pickup and drop-off. He also spoke Spanish, which was useful since about half of the bus spoke Spanish. Steve, our guide, was extremely friendly, funny and made sure no one got left behind. I enjoyed his stories as well. The audio on the bus was very nice, an optional way to learn more about the history of the areas as you travel through them, in multiple languages. Zaane Schans is a must see, with Volendam and Marken very popular stops, deservedly so. Each stop had an optional demonstration, one a windmill that is a woodmill, the last shop that produces wood clogs in the old way, with steam and by hand, and finally a demonstration of how to make a stroopwafel. This is a really nice overview. I would have preferred to spend more time in each place, but that is why this tour is worth doing. It's a good way to see everything and decide which place you would like to go back an visit. Compared to other tours I have done, it is a good value. Again thanks to Steve and Yarun(I know I am spelling his name wrong, Dutch is a tough language). Both did a fantastic job. Whoever is reading this should really give them both a raise. Seriously, I've been on a lot of tours all over the world and this one was professional, the guides engaging and friendly (you'd be surprised how often that isn't the case) and they made the trip fun. I would recommend this tour.
