The Basics

The best way to experience Seattle’s top gastronomic attraction is by sampling your way through it. Guided tasting tours, cooking classes, and cultural walking tours of the market are all excellent ways to take in the sights and sounds, try a little bit of everything, and find spots you may have missed on your own. You can even book an early-access tour to avoid the crowds or take a chef-guided food tour for professional guidance.

Fabulous tour! You won’t need lunch.
Chip was a great tour guide! He was very personable, encouraged questions, walked at an appropriate pace and gave wonderful recommendations for other things to do in Seattle. Every place we went to on the tour, the food was very good with a nice history lesson of the market. I would recommend giving yourselves 2 hours after the tour to walk around, digest and shop!

Chip was awesome! He gave us an in-depth tale on the life of Pike Place market, why it looks the way it does and made us taste some of the yummiest treats we’ve all had! A lovely way to experience Pike Place, I would most certainly recommend this to anyone visiting Pike Place Market!

Dani did a great job taking us on eight stops on the foodie tour. I had been to Pike Place Market so many times before but was never aware of most of the places we stopped at for samples. The pace was great and she did a great as our tour guide.

Our tour guide was Nola and she was awesome! Our entire family (all ages) loved this tour. We were so full by the end! I would recommend going on the earliest tour available. As the day gets later the Market really gets crowded. It was a great experience!

Plant Based Food Tour in Pike Place Market
Will was a great guide and we tried and tasted a huge variety of foods and stalls within the market. For it being a “tasting” the portions were a good size and we hit all the major must see places! Best part was it was all vegan! The only downside was the heat but that was completely out of the guide’s hands: we just happened to come the hottest week of the year.

Had the best time at this tour! Woody was an amazing tour guide, so knowledgeable. Between learning about the history of the market and food of Pike Place as well as trying all of the places we did, we couldn’t have asked for a better tour or guide or time. Would do this all over again!

When to Get There

Because the majority of the action at Pike Place Market takes place indoors, it’s a great place to visit all year-round. The market is open from dawn to dusk and is always bustling, but you can often avoid the crowds by visiting on weekday mornings.

Classic Fish Throwing at Pike Place

One of the most entertaining spectacles are the seafood stalls, where fishmongers throw salmon and other fish to each other rather than passing them by hand. When a customer places an order, an employee at the ice-covered fish table picks up the fish and theatrically hurls it over the countertop so it goes flying through the air to another employee who catches it and preps it for sale. Vendors can pack fish for travel and most ship throughout the US.
