The Basics

Experience a traditional Catholic Mass or, when no service is being conducted, wander the nave free of charge, gaze at the huge stained glass windows, and take in the construction of the oldest church on US soil. Among its artifacts are the wax-covered mummy of 1st-century martyr St. Pius and the tomb of Ponce de León, notorious Spanish conquistador and the first governor of Puerto Rico. Guided walking tours of Old San Juan typically include a stop at the church.

Excellent way to learn about the city, and try delicious local fare at the same time!
Our tour guide, Argeli, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and fun! He made the experience excellent. The food stops on the way made this tour the best one I’ve experienced. Fantastic breakfast, snacks and lunch at local small businesses that are connected to the city was what we wanted to experience, and seeing it together in the tour (where each stop was a private tasting) also made it feel extra special. But Argeli’s stories and passion for the island were the best part. Would recommend to everyone!!

Old San Juan Walking Tour
David was very knowledgeable about the beautiful island. He was able to answer our questions. He ensured our safety and even helped us to be shielded from the rain. His humor and personality added to the experience. I already sent a recommendation to my family in Puerto Rico to do his walking tour. Thanks so much for this experience. I learned so much and I will never forget it.

The food was Delicious! Itzel was fantastic and filled us in on many fun history facts along the way. She was very accommodating and wonderful energy as a guide! I recommend around lunch so that you have time to stop back at many of the places that were pointed out if you don’t have time to come back later on your trip.

This was awesome! Ricardo and Fabián were super knowledgeable and gave great recommendations for restaurants after the tour! They shared a lot of Puerto Rican history and even shared some cute vignettes that we all loved. The food was also awesome and the walking wasn’t that bad! I recommend bringing water with you because it can get hot, but water is served at every restaurant.

The Tomb of Ponce de León

On his search to discover the elusive Fountain of Youth, Ponce de León landed at a place he called Florida and later conquered Puerto Rico, eventually being appointed governor of the island in 1509. His original resting place was Iglesia de San Jose, but in the early 1900s he was transferred to San Juan Cathedral, where his body lies in a marble tomb near the transept.
