Phuket Old Town

Thalang Road, Phuket City

The Basics

Due to the compact size of Phuket Old Town, the area lends itself well to walking tours and is easy to explore in a couple of hours. It's a popular choice for visitors with limited time. The majority of Phuket sightseeing tours combine a stop at the old town with a visit to Wat Chalong, Phuket’s most famous Buddhist temple, and the Karon Viewpoint. More in-depth tours of Phuket Old Town reveal the wet market and Chinpracha House (Baan Chinpracha).

It was wonderful to not only visit little hidden foodie gems that represent the diversity of food influences that can be found in Phuket, but it was also a great joy to hear about the guide’s experiences growing up in this historic center.

Phuket Old Town Food Tour
A fun and informative tour that allowed us to experience the many different and amazing cuisines that make up and influence the food of Phuket. Pema was a fun, friendly and knowledgable guide for our tour and she happily talked us through the food of Myanmar, India, China and Thailand in addition to giving us many interesting facts about the history and architecture of Phuket Old Town.

We have been to Phuket many many...

Old Town Cultural Heritage Tour of Phuket
We have been to Phuket many many times so was looking for something different to do. Our guide Nuya drove 5 of us to a temple on a hill with amazing views of Phuket. Following that we went to an area where monkeys live in the mangroves where there's a small area across from those mangroves the monkeys will come to so the public can feed them. We then went to a 24 hour fruit and vegie market where our guide told us about the different types of foods and bought quite a few different things for all of us to try. We then did a walking tour of Phuket town and ended up in a very large street market with the road closed so there were heaps of stalls selling all types of things. We had about 45 minutes free time to explore the market. Our guide bought a couple of other foods for us to try. After walking back to the car we were then driven up to a very high hill or mountain with a Restaurant with beautiful views of eastern Phuket. We then had a 3 course meal with a drink. All this was included in the price. I am so pleased I did this tour. It's great value and I highly recommend it.

Phuket Old Town Food Tour
This was a fun tour. We saw lots of old town Phuket and got to experience much of the food and people with a little of the history sprinkled in. Our guide was super sweet and knowledgable about the old town culture and food, of which there was a ton! Only issue with this tour was that it is a little tough to find, otherwise we had a very nice time.

Great Food Tour In Phuket

Phuket Old Town Food Tour
Wow, what a great tour to experience all kinds of food at the phuket central market!! Our tour guide was fantastic, friendly and so knowledgeable of the foods we ate. Our group was small with only 7 persons that made us feel like family after the end of the day. All our fellow tour partners were so full of great food, none had much more stomach room for just that last bite.

Do yourself a favor and take this adventure in gastronomy! This food tour had me rolling home. We must have eaten one week's worth of delicious cuisine found in Old Town Phuket. Viator says this tour is about 4 hours with more than 14 dishes. We were on tour for more than 6 hours and we must have eaten everthing. Our guide Pema was a ball of energy and information. I'm sure the time length depends on vendor availability, but Pema always seemed to have a backup available as we went on Chinese New Years and vendors were sporadic. She knew everything about the area we were in. And once the tour was over, she was still helping us discover other food places! This is not just a food tour, but a cultural lesson as well. And because the tour is so small, you get to meet some amazing people! I truly recommend this tour. It is worth every penny.

We thought this would be a great way to start our first day in Phuket, and we could not have been more right! Our guide Pema was bubbly and so full of energy! The food was AMAZING, and the variety was awesome. Walking through the markets to see how they process coconuts and the huge bowls of curry pastes were wonderful. We had another couple on our tour, and Pema took good care of all (the other couple was vegan). We had lamb, a huge variety of seafood, pork, chicken and beef. Huge array of fruits and vegetables and sweets. We ate in restaurants and from food carts. And she had tons of knowledge about the area as she grew up on the island and went to school near the market. Don't miss it!

Culinary Delights in Old Phuket Town

Phuket’s vibrant mix of cultural influences means that its cuisine is as rich and varied as its architecture. A prime location beside the sea means it’s a great place to try seafood and classic southern Thai dishes such as tom som pla krabok, a hot and sour fish soup, and gaeng sataw, a combination of green beans and prawns.
