The Basics

Book skip-the-line tickets to save time at the perennially popular Louvre or attend with an art expert guide for a more in-depth visit—art lovers and novices alike will benefit from such insight. Private tours are a good option for those with specific interests, while audio guides are also available. Alternatively, combine the Louvre with stops at the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Highlights of the antiquity section include the Seated Scribe and Venus de Milo. From the Renaissance, don't miss famous works by Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, and Titian. French 19th-century masterpieces include Gericault's The Raft of the Medusa and the work of David and Delacroix.

The tour guide Nancy was knowledgeable, energetic and fun. The problem I had when I mixed the Viator meeting place was calmly, professionally and kindly solved and quickly.

Louvre Museum Skip-the-line Access Private Guided Tour
Lili was a great guide. We had her for the Paris walking tour and we’re very excited to see she was our guide through the Louvre. She has high energy, a great grasp on French history and international art. She knew.exactly where to go and how to get there which saved a lot of time and allowed us to explore and see even more. She. Was so excited to show us everything that we went overtime and almost made her late for her next appointment. It was a lot of fun.

Louvre Museum Skip-the-line Access Private Guided Tour
Couldn’t have asked for a better guide or experience. Experiencing the louvre with my 86 year old mobility-challenged mom was no issue whatsoever thanks to our guide, Eduardo, who preplanned our whole accessible visit. We so appreciated his attentiveness and his knowledge and passion for the history and art in the Louvre—I highly recommend Eduardo.

Louvre Museum Small Group Guided Tour
It was great having a knowledgeable tour guide. She knew her way around the Louvre and had so much interesting information about the pieces and the artists and about Paris. She covered everything I wanted to see in 2.5 his. I highly recommend this tour.

From Louvre to Street Art - original museum guided tour (skip the line!)
The Louvre is great and so was our guide KASIA. Her way of transmitting history linked with today’s artists is fantastic. We loved the way she explained and navigated us through the museum.

Louvre Museum Skip the Line Access Guided Tour
It’s the Louvre so of course it was amazing. 10 of us was rather a large group and while the earphones with mobil neck carry pack was helpful, there was lots of feedback that pierced your ears at times.

Louvre Museum Skip-the-Line Guided Tour with Venus de Milo & Mona Lisa
We really enjoyed this tour. The original guide cancelled late but our new guide showed up and was really dedicated to giving us a great tour even though she wasn't originally scheduled to take us around. We got a great day when the Louvre wasn't too busy. The tour concluded and she gave us advice on what else we may want to see. The museum takes multiple days to see it all but we left feeling like we saw all we needed to see!

Louvre Museum Skip-the-line Access Private Guided Tour
Very well informed tour guide. We learnt a lot about the history of several sculptures and paintings and the louvre itself by our guide which we wouldn’t have learnt by just taking the audio tour . Very informative and the 2 hours went by very quickly

The best way to see the Louvre

Louvre Museum Small Group Guided Tour
It was a great idea to see the Louvre the first time with an experienced guide and Viator supplied that with Elisabeth. She gave us a great overview, ensured we saw the important things and gave us a plan to see more things after the guided tour was over. She is knowledgable, friendly, patient and had great insights into the artists and how they related to history. Highly recommend.

Underrated Artworks at the Louvre

Most visitors flock to the Mona Lisa, but the Louvre is so much more than da Vinci's moody muse. Make time for Ingres' Grande Odalisque, an 18th-century nude; the cheeky 16th-century Gabrielle d’Estrées and One of Her Sisters; and a Goya classic—The Countess del Carpio. You can even explore the ruins of the fortress upon which the Louvre is built.
