The Basics

Central Park has something for everyone. Visit Bethesda Fountain, the Strawberry Fields monument, or the Alice in Wonderland statue; enjoy kid-friendly fun on the carousel at the Central Park Zoo; sail model boats at the Conservatory Water pond; or simply enjoy people-watching at Bethesda Terrace or Sheep Meadow. The park’s size can be overwhelming, so consider a park bike tour, a walking tour, or a pedicab tour for a guided experience. Bike rentals are also available for those who prefer to explore on their own.

Definitely recommend a ride thru Central Park!
Was a great thing to do to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary! Would recommend doing during the day, but was more romantic at night! Nikko was a great guide & driver and Milo did a great job pulling our carriage!

John our guide was great. Made the tour fun and took many pictures for us. Explained many things about Central Park we would not have known if on our own.

Lots of laughs, good stories and pictures of all the famous spots in Central Park. Bill was full of anecdotes and brought us to a number of great photo ops.

Half-Day Hell's Kitchen Food Tour and Central Park Stroll
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour! It was very informative, and Claire our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history and architecture around the areas we visited. We tried new food we wouldn't have on our own. We explored central park. We got a unique prospective on what makes the NYC what it is today and how it has changed and grown. The food deserves another mention because it was fantastic!!

VIP Horse Carriage Ride through Central Park in NYC with Photo Stops
I love that we were able to stop for photos and our driver took some for us. Our driver was funny and knowledgeable about Central Park. It was such a good way to see all of Central Park and a very good date to experience with my man!

Our local guide, Atakan along with Jack our horse, gave us a good impression of Central Park. We received many great stories from Atakan that we brought back to Hawaii to share!

This was the highlight of our ny weekend. Parents and teens all loved it. We got to see so much of Central Park. The biking was easy with plenty of breaks. Being water. Dan our guide was wonderful.

Classic 1.5-hour Central Park Pedicab Tour
We really enjoyed our driver. He was knowledgeable and funny. He would position us at a site and take our photos for us. Which was really nice and helpful. The ride was nice and relaxing. My only complaint would be that they would show you more sites inside Central Park. We liked what we saw but they went quick, even with the 10-15 minutes he gave us to take pics and look around. Our tour ended in an hour. But overall, it was a great New York experience.
Excellent Combination! Outdoor Tour and physical activity!

Central Park and 5th Avenue Walking Tour
Chris- the tour guide is a passionate New Yorker- and has thorough knowledge of the different places mentioned in this tour. The tour started just outside the metro station- should be easy to spot from the directions. Proceeds for an hour and half through the main places in the Central Park and then ends on the fifth avenue. Highly recommend this!
Every time I have booked any tour through Viator, I am convinced they find the best in that specific city.

Central Park Highlights Small-Group Bike Tour
Dan was just tremendous! Trusted our ability to actually ride in NYC traffic after our two-hour ride through Central Park. He pointed out so many interesting sites and gave us time to walk around to inspect certain landmarks, such as Strawberry Fields marker. Highly recommend! I was no doubt the oldest in our group of 12, but I was never made to feel that they slowed down for me to keep up. Great pace, plenty of spots to rest in shade and drink water.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Several spots offer information about the park: the Dairy Visitor Center, Belvedere Castle, the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, the Chess & Checkers House, and the Columbus Circle information kiosk.

  • No parking is available in the park, but parking garages are nearby.

  • Wheelchairs can be used on many paths, but there are stairs around the park, so consider starting at an information center to pick up a map.

How to Get There

Central Park is bordered by 59th Street, Central Park West, 110th Street, and Fifth Avenue, making it reachable on foot from many Manhattan neighborhoods. Otherwise, hop off the subway at Columbus Circle or Fifth Avenue to enter the park from the south, where you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride to explore via a traditional form of transportation.

When to Get There

The park is open daily from 6am to 1am. It’s a can’t-miss attraction at any time of year, but to enjoy a classic New York City activity such as ice skating at Wollman Rink or watching a performance of Shakespeare in the Park, you’ll want to visit during the appropriate season (winter and summer, respectively).

Museums Surrounding Central Park

Many of New York City’s top museums lie just on the edges of Central Park, most notably on Manhattan’s famed Museum Mile, a stretch of Fifth Avenue that’s home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Neue Galerie New York. On the other side of the park, you’ll find the American Museum of Natural History.
