Montreal

The Basics

Exploring Old Montreal is the best way to experience the city’s history, culture, and architecture. Myriad group and private tours are designed to introduce visitors to a combination of all three on foot, by bike, by scooter, or even from the air. Most city tours include time in Old Montreal, with tour guides providing context for and explanation of all the Canadian history within its walls. Choose a night tour if you prefer to explore after dark or a food tour to dive into the local food truck and craft beer scenes.

Old Montreal Walking Tour
the tour guide was very knowledgeable and interjected humorous anecdotes in our tour. thoroughly enjoyable. She was also mindful that it was very hot so gave us time to refill our water bottles and/or take a quick break. she was thoughtful enough to find shade whenever she had a story to tell.

Montreal City Sightseeing Tour with Live Commentary
Overall this was a hood tour and we saw a lot. I enjoyed the stop and chance to look around notre dame. There was some really nice history shared. My only concern is some of it was wrong….the American colonies were not french in the 1760’s….if they were, the usa fought and defeated the wrong country for independence. I know it must be hard to get the sound right in the motor coach for everyone to hear but it was defeaning.

Guided Scooter Sightseeing Tour in Montreal
We have never done a tour like this and we had SUCH a good time! David was a great teacher and our group quickly learned how to ride the scooters. He was a fabulous tour guide taking us through the local neighbourhoods, bagel shop, outdoor market, and up Mont Royal! We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and will be back for the night tour the next time we visit!

Highlights of Old Montreal

The historic area’s pulsating center is Place Jacques-Cartier. From here, its center promenade slopes down from Rue Notre-Dame to the Old Port, lined with 18th-century stone buildings. At the base of the plaza are horse-drawn carriages, outdoor cafés, art galleries, and street performers. Nearby, you’ll find the Bonsecours Market, the oldest and largest public market in the city, and the stone Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel. West of Place Jacques-Cartier is the beautiful Place d’Armes, dominated by the Notre-Dame Basilica. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Archaeology and History are also worth visiting.
