Deer Island

The three islands of Mazatlán are considered one of the most iconic symbols of the region. They are at once an interesting ecological study and a fantastic recreational space, thanks to their natural attributes and terrain. The islands were named according to the main species that inhabit or once inhabited them: Birds, Deer and Wolves. The largest and most popular island is Isla de Venados (Deer Island), located right in the middle of the three. It has the most extensive beach and is the best place in Mazatlan to practice snorkeling, thanks to small waves and crystal clear waters. Isla de Venados is ideal for swimming, jet skiing, banana boating, paddle surfing and also for hiking and exploring on land. With an impressive view of the coast of Mazatlan and the surrounding area, you’ll fall in love with the natural beauty and unique perspective that Isla de Venados offers. Don’t miss it!

Ghost Town and Secret Beach

Ghost Town and Secret Beach

26 km north of Mazatlán, on the Mazatlán - Culiacán toll road, is hidden, as in a memory, Marmol de Salcido. What once was a bustling town, today in each of its corners it tells us stories of its old glow that began with the arrival of a cement factory. The stories continue through the streets that lead us to the town's marshes with their beautiful resident and migratory birds and impressive views of a fine sand beach where with a little luck you can see dolphins. Year after year, this same beach is a silent witness to the beginning and end of the life of one of the most primitive reptiles, since the female olive ridley turtle spawns along the strip of sand. Here her young are born which, like their mother, after a long life will return to rest their last trip and be part of the turtle cemetery.

Half-Day Ziplining Experience from Mazatlán
"My boyfriend and I had an amazing time doing this tour! We started off being picked up at our resort and the drive was really scenic. We saw several cool things on the way up into the mountain. It was only about 30 to 40 minutes from our resort and once we there we got started. Our guides fitted us with our harnesses and safety equipment and we were off in the Barrel Mobile! It took us up and up to the first zip line. It was exhilarating!!! I wish I would have had a Go Pro for this experience. This same tour operator also offers ATV rides but we didn't do those. It did look fun though. Once our 12 zip line adventure was complete (I even hung upside down like a fat Spiderman), we were shuttled back down to the tiny town square where we were seated under a covered area with fans, and served beers as our hosts cooked our lunch. We saw the grill going with fresh tomatoes and chilis. They brought these over to us in a mortar and pestle like bowl and we went to mottling our own fresh made salsa. After the fresh gauc, and then the queso that they poured a little Tequila on to make it flame, we were given beef and vegetables and were stuffed by the time it was time for us to go a few feet away to their Tequila Factory. It was a tiny place with HUGE barrels and all their flavors were available to taste! We purchased 4 bottles: The coffee flavor, the mango, the medicinal rattlesnake with our very own small rattlesnake in the bottle, and my favorite, the Hibiscus Tequila. We then walked next door to the leather shop where I got custom shoes made and they were delivered to my resort the next day!!! There were wallets, jewelry, and shoes. The people throughout this experience embodied hospitality. We found out later that day that we had visited the tour owner's restaurant back in the City called Mr. Lionoso's. This was hands down the best restaurant we ate at during our stay in Mazatlan. Mr. Lionoso himself greeted us on our arrival. We had a beautiful view of the ocean, a gentleman playing soft guitar music, and several staff members besides our server came to the table and checked on us BY NAME. We ordered 25 shrimp 5 different ways and a lobster. We were SHOCKED when the food came as the shrimp were as big as a hand and came in a giant clay boat with coals underneath to keep the food warm. It was delicious. After our meal, our food was boxed and we asked if we could take a walk on the beach. The server gladly kept our food on the table for us while we took some sunset pics on the beach. As we were preparing to leave, we noticed two men dressed in traditional Aztec wear and found out they were about to dance. We grabbed an empty spot, a few more drink and waited for them to dance. The dance was awesome and I was glad we didn't miss it. Right after some ways up the beach there happened to be fireworks going off and the night was perfect! We were given ice cream treats on the house on the way out and they put is in a cab to our resort. Anything connected with Mr. Lionoso I would recommend doing as he makes hospitality a priority in his businesses and his staff take it to heart."..."

Day Pass at Mazatlan Beach Front Resort with Lunch
"They picked us up right at the pier. They made it easy. The resort was beautiful and the food was amazing. The bartenders were so nice! The only downside was that the gift shop did not accept credit cards and were unfamiliar as to how to give correct change back in US dollars. But besides that, everything was perfect!"..."

Deer Island
"We loved this excursion!!! Kayaking from the beach to deer Island wasn't difficult. The hike up to the peak was filled with butterflies and great views. The snorkeling and beach time was also great. Our tour guide was the best we had through our entire stay in Mazatlán. the only negative is I wish our kayaks were more suited to open water. They didn't coast well. other thab that, everything was great!"..."

Whale Watching
"This tour was really nice, we saw 5 whales and other sea life. They had snacks and drinks for us on the boat but there was no bathroom on the boat so I had to not drink water for the tour which lasted a little over 3 hours. The pickup location and time was unclear and no one at the resort knew about this tour. But overall it was great once they picked us up and took us to see the whales."..."

Ten Islands Expedition
"We got to see a lot of the islands up close. We also saw sea lions and a large family group of dolphins. This boat tour is best for those who don’t have trouble climbing into a raft like boat. There were are rolling waves but the boat ride was pretty smooth. The guide, boat captain, and bus pickup folks were all friendly and gave excellent service."..."

Deer Island in Mazatlán
"Initially we were hesitant to pay for a tour, knowing we could find someone at the hotel to take us to the two places. However, we considered the convenience of being picked up, having a tour guide who spoke English and most importantly our safety were the reasons we chose to pay for the tour. 6 of us took the day long tour to the Basilica and Teotihuacan with our guide Auburn. His English was great. He was humorous which made the drive time between tour stops fun. The pyramids were very interesting. Auburn gave us a tour of the pyramids. We climbed the Moon pyramid. The Basilica is a shrine to the Virgin de Guadalupe. There are 7 temples at the Basilica and Auburn knew exactly which temples would be best to visit and he knew exactly where to stand to take the best pictures. We really enjoyed our tour and our guide, Auburn. We recommend this tour."..."
