Corso Italia is Genoa’s main promenade, and it connects the Foce neighborhood to the ancient fisherman’s village of Boccadasse. Many restaurants and beach clubs line the route, as do key landmarks such as Chiesa di San Pietro, the Abbey of San Giuliano, and small art deco palaces that overlook the sea. Make your way down to the waterfront to enjoy a long stroll along this atmospheric esplanade.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Corso Italia promenade is a must for all first-time visitors to Genoa.
There is little shade along the route, so bring sun protection and water.
It can get windy along the waterfront, so bring a jacket for early morning and evening strolls.
The entire length of Corso Italia is tiled, making it accessible for wheelchair users.
How to Get There
Corso Italia is adjacent to the Fiera di Genova Convention Centre along the waterfront. From the city center, take bus 31 or 607, both of which make a few stops along Corso Italia. The promenade is a 20-minute walk from the Genoa Brignole train station (Stazione di Genova Brignole) down Via Aurelia.
When to Get There
Corso Italia is a favored spot amongst the Genoese for a Sunday stroll, and the waterfront promenade is a hit every day for sunset views. The best time to visit Genoa is from May to September, when the weather is warm and perfect for taking a dip in the Mediterranean.
Boccadasse Fishing Village
Just at the end of Corso Italia is Boccadasse, one of the most ancient fishing villages along the Italian Riviera. Colorful houses, cobblestoned streets, and fishing boats transport visitors back in time. Sample the local cuisine in some of the romantic restaurants or enjoy a refreshing gelato as you sunbathe on the small beaches in this quaint seaside village.
