Secluded and preserved by its morphology, Casentino has it all to amaze the traveller wishing to discover a different Tuscany: sacred forests and monasteries, beautiful medieval hamlets and dramatic landscapes. Here hills are not as gentle as in the postcards from Valdorcia, but you will fall in love with Casentino Valley precisely for its authenticity. Our discovery tour starts from the hill town of Poppi, that was once the court of local rulers Conti Guidi. Italian 13th-century writer Dante Alighieri called their castle home when he was forced to exile from Florence. After visiting Poppi we will drive on to Pratovecchio, located on the Arno river. This will be our starting point for a short 3-km hike up to Pieve di Romena, a magical church surrounded by lavender fields and olive trees. From there, we will walk on up to the ruins of Romena Castle (1.5 km) before reaching the medieval village of Stia, where you will be free to self-explore this little town and its green surroundings.

If you want to see Florence in a different way and you like to hike and walk that is the tour for you. We will enter the beautiful Boboli Garden and visit it till the highest point where we will go out and after few meters we will have a walk in the beautiful Bardini Garden with one of the most spectacular view of Florence. Through little street along the ancient walls we will arrive in the area of San Niccolò full of art galleries and great little restaurant to start our hiking to piazzale Michelangelo to see the church of San Miniato al Monte, one of the oldest in Florence! 10 km (5 miles) in total out of the crowd!!!

The Apennines is a mountain range that stretches from the north to the south of Italy. It crosses through Mugello, enriching the town with its incredible mountainous landscape. The trekking path has been part of the area’s main road network since Etruscan times, located between central Italy and the Lombardy plain. The area was used primarily by the Etruscans to connect the towns of Fiesole and Felsina (Bologna). It was then populated by the Romans, and in the Medieval times was home to Tuscany’s noble Count Guidi, It remained inhabited by farming families until the 1960s. This excursion through the woods is therefore a journey between past and present. Signs of early human inhabitants are still evident in the form of old houses and established streets, but the now abandoned space is simply a reminder of the life that was.

Let’s hike up on the hills between the Chianti Florentine Hills and the Chianti Classico, only few minutes from Florence, where you will admire unique glimpses on the Tuscan countryside.
