Chicago Theatre

175 North State Street, Chicago, 60601

The Basics

The first of the great early-20th-century movie palaces, the Chicago Theatre was designed to be as lavish as Versailles. Its landmark marquee is backed by a miniature replica of the Arc de Triomphe, the 5-story lobby is modeled on Versailles’ Royal Chapel, and the grand staircase is based on the one at the Palais Garnier, the Paris’ stunning opera house.

The theater is a popular stop on city sightseeing tours, and you can admire its exterior on any number of hop-on hop-off bus tours. To explore the theater’s impressive interior, attend a performance or take one of the venue’s daily tours, included with the Chicago Explorer Pass and Go Chicago Card.

So fun! The River architecture boat tour was my favorite. We saw the Field Museum as well and it took a whole day to attempt to see it all

Hands down the best deal out there!

Go City: Chicago All-Inclusive Pass with 25+ Attractions
We were skeptical to purchase this bec of the negative reviews, but everything worked well for us. It's really easy, the diff establishments just scan your QR codes. Hands down this is the better deal than the city pass as you can pick as many as you can fit in your day. We saved over $350 for a party of 7. Skydeck, river cruise, Shedd, hop on bus are a must. We ended the day w an exhilarating escape game that.our teenagers loved you can schedule it pretty late as well. Highly recommend!

Go City: Chicago Explorer Pass - Choose 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 Attractions
It’s a great way to see the city of Chicago. Unfortunately, I did not get to enjoy my third attraction because I did not know they require reservations at 360 and they didn’t have anymore time slots for the day. Had I known ahead of time this would be the case I would have gotten the 2 attraction pass. PRO tip: I would highly recommend booking any attractions that require a reservation first so you can enjoy the rest without any hassles. Tip for the company: offer the link for the guidebook on the ticket purchase page. This will help provide a lot of transparency to customers and help with your reviews. It contains a lot of important details that would be helpful in deciding of this ticket would work for the customer or not. Or determining which number of attractions work for the customer.

We had such a good time with this pass! The most fun was at Navy Pier on the Ferris wheel. The Chicago 360 Observation Center was our second favorite spot and being able to walk around at a leisurely pace and look out over the city with a yummy cocktail in hand was very relaxing. Our last stop was the Museum of Contemporary Art and while we usually enjoy the arts, none of us could find an exhibit we could really thoroughly enjoy. However I would recommend this pass to anyone that really wants to experience Chicago as there were so many choices of activities. It’s worth the investment!

Beautiful Building

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Historic Chicago Theatre
I gave the tour 4 stars because the building is an icon that you must see. Our tour guide was fun and up tempo. The only downside was the security measures. It kind of set of the tone wrong. It was either a bit much, or if required a worry as too what could happen on the tour...

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Historic Chicago Theatre
I've lived in Chicago all my life but never took this tour before. Our guide was excellent, knowledgable, funny and tried to get to know each of us on the tour. He knows the theater well. He's a little hazy on Chicago history dates: when the Lake Street el and State Street subway were built. But overall a good job.

This one of several passes you can get. I did not do the research so I don;t know how they compare with others. But I found it really useful to have this organized before I got to Chicago and was then able to use it to get onto the three things I wanted to do.

Other Chicago Architecture Landmarks

In the late 1800s, the Great Chicago Fire destroyed most of downtown, making way for different styles of architecture as new buildings went up. Architecture enthusiasts will swoon in Chicago and definitely want to seek out popular landmarks such as the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower, on the Magnificent Mile. Also, just across Michigan Avenue stands the Wrigley Building, with its giant clockface and two towers overlooking the Chicago River.
