Moët & Chandon Champagne Cellars (Les Caves Moët & Chandon)

20 avenue de Champagne, Epernay, France

The Basics

The Moët & Chandon Champagne cellars are a highlight for visitors to the Champagne region, with roughly 17 miles (27 kilometers) of tunnels and vaults filled with aging bottles. Take a guided tour to explore the cellars on foot, get a behind-the-scenes look at the brand’s historic Champagne- and wine-making processes, and sample a selection of Moët & Chandon’s famous vintage Champagne varietals. Some tours feature the season’s newest wines, while others highlight Moët Imperial or a rosé variety. Full-day Champagne tours from Paris or Reims typically include a visit to the Moët & Chandon cellars.

Family Winery way to go...
The family Winery was the best. Brands are just brands. This was the opinion I formed after tasting both.

Champagne Day Trip with Moet&Chandon, Reims Cathedral & Family Winery from Paris
We had a great time. Would definitely do again. Only glitch, they need to confirm regarding the meeting place. Was told café was open 24/7, so I felt fine come in an hour early to have breakfast before the trip. However, they did not open until 8 o’clock which was after we were left and I was not comfortable standing in the dark for an hour. I understand things are different because of Covid, more the reason to confirm these things in advance

Small-Group Day Tour of Moët et Chandon and Taittinger with Champagne Tasting from Reims
Our guide Rafael was very knowledgeable! My mom and I took a trip to Paris together and decided to do this day trip to see another location. We learned so much about champagne and the history of Reims (starting with very little knowledge). Others with more experience also seemed to learn a lot. We also enjoyed the TGV train getting us there from Paris. I would recommend staying in Reims overnight one night.

Champagne Day Trip with Moet&Chandon, Reims Cathedral & Family Winery from Paris
The family winery, Pierre Domi, and the Reims Cathedral were both spectacular. The owner, Stefan, gave us an intimate tour followed by delicious champagne. Moët & Chandon was a huge let down after that experience. Our guide Nissa, was charming, informative and made our day wonderful. We highly recommend!

Champagne Day Trip with Moet&Chandon, Reims Cathedral & Family Winery from Paris
I travelled solo and the group I met on the tour was lovely! Our guide Nissa was amazing, she was personable, engaging and clearly knew a lot about the subject. My favourite part of the tour was tasting fresh grape juice from the harvested and pressed grapes when visiting a small producer, which only happens a few times a year!

Champagne Day Trip to Moët & Chandon and Family Winery with Lunch from Reims
We had a wonderful experience. Our tour guide Tom was very professional and lots of fun. He could tell us a lot about the history, the region and the champagne making process. The visit to the houses was amazing and last but not least the tasting and lunch was memorable. Matthias and his crew did a fabulous job and we all felt this tour was an experience we would never forget. Good luck with all your great plans!! We would definitely recommend this tour to everyone! Informative and fun! Our guide, Rafael, couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. He was knowledgeable and personable … a pure joy! The tours and tastings were as advertised and the additional Champagne tasting and lunch was definitely worth the extra. Highly recommended.

Small-Group Day Tour of Moët et Chandon and Taittinger with Champagne Tasting from Reims
Sept/Oct 2021. Excellent tour and guide. When we first arrived my husband and I had some trouble finding the group (our fault). Make sure to read pick up directions carefully and in advance. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He spoke multiple languages (English, Italian, Spanish, Portugués). We had 6 people on our tour which was a great size. Lunch was on our own but the guide gave us a lot of recommendations. We did not get to see Taittinger because it was a World Heritage Holiday and they were unavailable for tours. But the tour company did inform us before hand. Taittinger was replaced with Casanova which was very nice and in town. I enjoyed seeing a smaller more mom and pop place. Great way to see the Champaign region and have a day trip away from Paris.

The History of Moët & Chandon Champagne

The Moët (pronounced “mo-ett”) & Chandon company was founded in 1743, during the reign of King Louis XV. The brand’s Champagne was a favorite of the monarch and soon rose to fame throughout France, with famous aficionados such as Napoleon and Queen Victoria of Great Britain becoming quick fans. Now under the umbrella brand of LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), the brand continues to hold its prestige.
