Neues Museum (New Museum)

Bodestraße 1-3, Berlin, Germany, 10178

The Basics

The impressive Neues Museum features over 9,000 objects from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages across Europe and the Middle East. In addition to the bust of Nefertiti, museum highlights include Egyptian mummies, barbarian pirate’s trove from the third century, and the Berlin Green Head, an Egyptian sculpture from around 350 BC. The building itself is noteworthy, with war damage incorporated into the reconstruction instead of covered over.

Some guided tours that visit the Neues Museum include skip-the-line admission to the Neues and Pergamon museums with the Museum Island day pass. Those who want to set their own itinerary can book individual tickets or purchase the Berlin Pass, which includes entry to over 50 attractions and museums, or the 3-day Museum Pass Berlin, which includes more than 30 museums.

Guided tour of Pergamon and Neues Museum's a must
Our (English-language) guide was a very knowledgeable Irishman who studies ancient history. 1.5 hours each in the Pergamon and Neues museums to ensure not to miss the most important displays as well as get a real understanding of things. Due to the season, neither museum was crowded (so the "skip-the-line" wasn't critical) but the level of understanding was much more enhanced. Highly recommended!!

Berlin Skip-the-Line Pergamon and New Museum Guided Tour Plus Museum Island Pass
Very good experience! The tour was amazing, the tour guide was good at his job, informative and fun to listen to. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has a thing for ancient history! Tipp: The Pergamon Museum is open only 20% due to major renovations (80%), but the tour still is worth the money because you also visit the New Museum. The Pergamon Museum will be in renovations untill 2025 year. Wish you all good time in Berlin!

Our guide Gabriela was knowledgeable and extremely professional. She understood the key interests of group members, eagerly answered all questions and, what is most important -was keeping dialogue on many related subjects. Really worth having this tour.

We had a great tour. Mike knew so much about everything and shared the greatest stories. I loved all of his personal photos of buildings before reconstruction. i appreciate all the work that has been done to restore the buildings and the treasures. I recommend Mike as your guide for any tour he does. You will be rewarded. It is cognitive overload!!!!

The Pergamon is a very interesting, must-see museum and always has a huge line with a very long wait time. Walk right by with this pass. And also the other museums.

When to Get There

The Neues Museum is one of Berlin’s most popular sights, and ticket lines can be long, especially during the summer months. Visit the museum first thing in the morning—prereserved timed ticket in hand—and head directly to the Nefertiti exhibit for the best shot at an uncrowded viewing. Thursday evening, when the museum stays open late, is another opportunity to avoid the usual crowds. The museum is closed on Mondays.

The Antiquities of the Neues Museum

Built as an overflow building to the Altes Museum (Old Museum) in the mid-1800s, the Neues Museum is now home to the well-known bust of Nefertiti, queen of Egypt. Additional prized artifacts on display include silver vessels from Priam’s Treasure thought to be from ancient Troy; the late–Bronze Age Berlin Gold Hat, a gold-leaf covering that stands almost 30 inches (75 cm) high; and a 700,000-year-old axe from the earliest Stone Age.
