Like most of Italy, Abruzzo is famous for its wine, so no visit would be complete without sampling some of the local vino. Visit one the oldest wineries in the region for a wine-tasting session paired with a sampling of local olive oils, cheeses, salumi, and sausages. Follow the entire wine-making process, from weighing to pressing, and visit cellars where hundreds of thousands of bottles are stored for aging.

This is a private wine tour during which you will visit small family-run wineries. You will meet the producers in person and taste 6 local wines. You will taste Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Cerasuolo and learn how they are made. Local artisan cheeses, salami and prosciutto will be served during the tastings. Your knowledgeable guide will tell you about history of wine-making in Abruzzo and give you some tips on where in the region to find the best wines. Please note: we visit small family wineries where producers make time in their busy schedule to meet you. Appointments are set when a tour booking is confirmed and cannot be changed.

I am a food and travel writer with passion for all things Abruzzo. It is my job to know the best foodie spots in Pescara and Abruzzo and I'll be happy to share them with you! My groups are small, never more than 6 people, so my tours feel more like a friends' outing, with loads of laughs and delicious bites of the best local specialties. This three and a half hour food and wine tour offers 5 authentic tastings (the food served in abundance will replace the prenzo) in different places in the village of Pescara Vecchia: it starts with a visit to the local market and discover seasonal products and secret ingredients. You will do 2 tastings in the family-run stores of the market. You will continue in the village of the native places of Gabriele D’Annunzio doing 2 more tastings in the alleys among the dozens of restaurants, bistros and wine bars. The tour will end at a historic Pescara pastry shop with a tasting of the typical Pescara cake that Gabriele D’Annunzio loved so much: the Parrozzo

Stroll through the vineyards and discover the modern production philosophy of the Marchesi De 'Cordano winery. During the visit you will be able to admire the vineyards and you will be guided in a path of knowledge about wine production. At the end of the visit you will be a guest of the tasting room, where you will taste some wines of the Marchesi De ’Cordano Winery.

During the guided tour you will learn about the history of the ancient farm and the various cultivation techniques. Inside the cellar you can taste the wines of Podere Castorani accompanied by typical local products. The Podere Castorani rises 350 meters high, on a hill of Alanno where the ancient vineyards, set between the Majella National Park and the nearby Adriatic coast, enjoy excellent exposure to the sun and night winds, and temperature changes between day and night that give the grapes unique and precious characteristics.

The tour of the Palmenti di Pietranico is a circuit created for the visit of ancient tanks, huge outcropping rocks scattered over the territory that, worked with extreme skill, were used as tanks to make wine directly on the fields. Thus the peasants brought home only the must, leaving the processing waste directly in the countryside, avoiding the effort of transporting to the farms material that would not produce wine and thus fertilizing the same fields. The millstones are one of the best testimonials to understand the refined level reached by local artisans and the enormous size that the production of fine wines had achieved in the territory. In the Municipality of Pietranico there is the highest concentration of millstones excavated in the rock in Abruzzo, located on the west-facing slope dominated by the town.
